LEAD ENGINEER (ELECTRO-MECHANICAL PRODUCTS/INSTRUMENTATION)

Based in Crawley / West Sussex, ESS Recruit’s client is a global leader in bringing technology and engineering together to provide innovative solutions for customers in industrial, commercial, and consumer markets around the world. Their corrosion and erosion business is a prestigious and highly respected brand of the Group, and a global leader for non-intrusive ultrasonic and inline corrosion and erosion monitoring, primarily for the oil and gas industry.

First to market with this technology, they have developed a unique product portfolio utilising specialised sensor technology and wireless data collection which delivers high integrity data from the world’s most challenging environments. Ongoing product development along with NPI/NPD activity means they now need to recruit two Lead Engineers.

The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of mechanical and electronic engineering fundamentals to lead the development of enhancements to our corrosion monitoring products and lead reactive product quality investigations.

You will over time build an expert knowledge of the products and their design which will include the core engineering principles: ultrasonic waves, electromagnetics and signal processing, build on a solid mechanical engineering foundation. To carry out effective investigations you will also need to build skills to draw on the data in the business, analyse and draw conclusions. You will take on increasing levels of responsibility as your capability in different parts of our products and systems grows.

As lead engineer you will

  • Understand and use the appropriate engineering principles, simulation tools or data to make justified engineering decisions.
  • Lead and manage and work hands-on in the product development cycle: understand, design, make, test, evaluate
  • Lead and execute quality or field support investigations.
  • Clearly communicate design decisions and product performance evaluation for product enhancements
  • Develop and drive the delivery of realistic engineering plans which achieve the required balance of quality and speed to meet business objectives
  • Provide engineering advice to other teams
  • Build teams with high levels of competence and enthusiasm

Educated to degree calibre (Masters / PhD preferred) in a technical or engineering discipline (Mechatronics, Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic this will suit candidates from other OEM electro-mechanical products/instrumentation backgrounds; for example, oil and gas, corrosion engineering / monitoring, gas/liquid measurement or analysis, non-destructive testing, defence technology and systems, medical devices and analysis equipment or equipment designed for manufacturing.
