An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and skilled user environment focussed engineer to join Cornwall Council’s Information Services, Infrastructure & Operations Team.

Cornwall Council Information Services supports a large and diverse enterprise-wide IT infrastructure, delivering services to 8,000 officers serving the citizens of Cornwall from over 200 locations within Cornwall and beyond. Information Services also provides a variety of systems and applications directly used by members of the public.

The User Environment & Identity team performs a key role in the development and support of a wide range of technologies supporting the end users of Cornwall Council and its partners. Lead Engineers in the team are responsible for designing and maintaining endpoint solutions using platforms from leading vendors including Microsoft SCCM and Endpoint Manager as well as Microsoft Azure and vendor specific management platforms. They also act as an expert in their area, sharing skills to help to empower the 1st and 2nd line teams delivering day to day support direct to customers.

With the move away from traditional office-based work towards a hybrid working environment, the team will be focussing our future development on ensuring that our customers can safely and securely access the information they need to deliver services to the citizens of Cornwall from all appropriate locations using the whole spectrum of available devices. From PC’s and Laptops, through innovative use of phones, tablets and hybrid meeting devices and on towards to cloud computing devices, this role will be key in delivering the digital change that Cornwall Council needs.

As a Lead End User Computing Engineer, you will be a key member of a focused technical delivery team under the support and direction of the User Environment & Identity Product Manager and Principal End User Computing Engineer. You will provide expert input to programmes and projects delivering digital change across Cornwall Council. Activities undertaken in the role are wide ranging and challenging, including owning the technology roadmap for agreed specialist areas, technically leading project activities within the team, coaching and developing junior colleagues and following established service management processes for the co-ordination and resolution of customer outages.

The ability to work using your own initiative using data driven methodologies to solve problems is essential. Experience of using Microsoft SCCM & Endpoint Manger (Intune), or equivalent, to develop end to end device solutions is desirable, as is the ability to use scripting tools such as Microsoft Powershell to simplify and automate tasks.

We are a family focused organisation, with well-established flexible working practices that help to support your work-life balance, all based within the beautiful County of Cornwall.

Whilst the location/work-base for this role has been specified, our evolving ways of working means that the role may require you to also work remotely (e.g. from home/other locations). We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.

This position will be subject to a criminal record disclosure check.

We are open to discussion about flexible working.

Cornwall Council are reviewing how we pay and reward our staff and reward items are subject to change from October. We will continue to keep you informed on any impacts that may apply to you as this progresses.
