Job Description Summary
GE’s Power Conversion business, part of GE Vernova, provides electrification systems that are critical to customers’ power and energy needs for their high-performance applications. Projects that range from supporting our UK and international customers in procuring and designing new equipment to deliver complex system solutions, through feasibility studies, technical engineering investigations and analyses.Research and development are key to what we do, and you will have the opportunity to influence the development of future product design concepts as well as the development of new capabilities, tools and processes.The Lead Drives Control Engineer is responsible for Control Software and key Control Hardware for GE Power (PC)’s range of Electric Drives. This is a technical role and will involve working in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to specify, design, code & validate control systems for MW-scale power electronic drive systems for Marine, Naval, Energy and Industry applications.

Job DescriptionIn This Role You Will Be Responsible For
  • Designing, developing and maintaining Drive Control Systems technology:
    • Requirements, design, implementation, testing control software.
    • Application software and standards.
    • Core Drive Control PCB hardware.
    • FPGA configurations and I/O interfacing.
  • Developing and maintaining good engineering interfaces to:
    • Power Electronics team
    • Field / commissioning engineering.
    • Automation Control Dept. firmware development.
    • Peer groups in other parts of GE PC and other parts of GE.
    • Liaising with Suppliers and Customers.
    We Are Looking For a Professional With
    • Bachelor’s degree, Master or PHD from an accredited university or college (or equivalent qualification) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent subject.
    • Experience working with Variable Speed Drive Control.
    • Experience in capturing & creating requirements document, technical report, functional design document.
    • Experience of firmware design and development, using C code programming & awareness of embedded software design, microprocessor & FPGA programming.
    • Pros and cons of coding in C, assembler, VHDL, Matlab code generation and other languages.
    • Strong power electronics understanding of Diodes, Thyristors, IGBTs, GTOs, IGCTs, MOSFETS, SiC, GaN etc.
    • Linear & Non-Linear Control System Design / Simulation tools such as Matlab Simulink
    • Exposure to PWM Control and other switching strategies
    • Willingness to travel to customer site for meetings or equipment validation.
    • Experience implementing and validating application software (desired).
    • Experience in creating and presenting technical reports and responding to clients’ technical questions (desired).
    • Strong understanding of electrical machines: DC, Induction, Synchronous, Permanent magnet machines (desired).
    • Experience of Product Life Cycle, from initial design to detailed design and specification (desired).
