Overall SummaryClose Brothers Group, a FTSE 250 company, is leading UK merchant banking group consisting of a diversified set of specialist financial services providing lending, deposit taking, wealth management services and securities trading.As part of a wider technology strategic simplification programme, we are looking for a Lead GitLab DevOps engineer to support us in the rationalisation and standardisation of our Dev Ops tooling onto a common suite of strategic technologies, primarily GitLab (SaaS) and JFrog Artifactory (SaaS).You will be responsible for leading the assessment of existing build and deployment pipelines across Jenkins, Octopus, TeamCity. Working with key stakeholders across the DevOps community, you will establish a migration approach and plan, and lead the migration execution.You will also be responsible for identifying opportunities to simplify our existing pipelines and release management processes, driving standardisation and a high degree of automation across the Dev Ops practice.This is a hands-on role, working in an exciting technology transformation project with the opportunity to transform a largely legacy estate and establish the “gold standard” for Dev Ops within the Bank.Responsibilities- To act as a “DevOps evangelist” promoting and ensuring best practice is followed
- Design and implement secure automation solutions (CI/CD pipelines) across development, test, and production environments covering Hybrid (Cloud/On-Premises) deployment models.
- Evaluate existing dev ops processes against industry standards; making recommendations for improvements and implementing as agreed.
- Ensure Governance is built into the automation pipelines – including traceability of change and control of environments.
- Inspect, adapt and improve constantly to increase the Quality & Velocity of deliveries.
- Development and support of the DevOps toolchain.
- Development and maintenance of automated solution covering operational administration, system/data backup, disaster recovery, and security/performance monitoring.
- Facilitating the process of knowledge sharing across delivery and operations teams.
- Defining the Branching/Merging Strategy in partnership with the Development Leads.
- Troubleshooting deployment issues and coordinating with the development and operations teams to streamline/automate.
- Support the coaching, mentoring and career development of team members.
- Must have: GitLab experience for CI/CD pipelines.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a DevOps Engineer.
- Ideally with 1-year using GitLab pipelines with GitLab Ultimate or Premium edition.
- Hands-on experience in Software Build Automation; the creation of CI/CD pipelines; Configuration Management; and Change & Release Management in an Agile/SCRUM development environment.
- DevOps tooling: GIT, GitLab (SaaS), Jenkins, Artifactory (SaaS), TeamCity & Octopus Deploy.
- In-depth understanding of GIT branching/merging strategies.
- Atlassian JIRA/Confluence.
- Proficiency in scripting languages including Groovy, Bash, Python, Ruby and JavaScript.
- Knowledge of secure coding and testing concepts across a variety of tools (static, dynamic, and both automated and manual) and vulnerability management.
- Experience of Container solutions such as Docker/ Kubernetes.
- Ability to achieve goals and milestones while valuing and maintaining a strong attention to detail.
- Excellent judgment, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with mixed groups of stakeholders in a complex, multi-vendor environment.
- Self-motivated with good time management and organizational skills.
- Adaptive communication methods (written, oral, presentations).

- Knowledge/experience of Salesforce and/or Snowflake platforms (not essential)
