Bee Lighting is searching for a Lead Design Engineer to design a range of bespoke lighting products, mainly in the automotive sector. Recent projects have included custom made lighting solutions for a number of prestige vehicle manufacturers and unique assemblies for prototype and special project vehicles.

The role:

You will be responsible for producing 2D/3D CAD using Catia V5 or software required, coordinating design engineering activities from initial concept to production and for presenting designs at customer reviews throughout the development process. In addition to your design duties you will need to manage project progress against an agreed budget and timing and review and feedback to the Team Leader whilst supporting the design team and promoting cross team working and a “get the job done” attitude

Other key duties:

  • Carry out feasibility studies, package checks and reviews for each design
  • Select and apply proprietary components for assemblies and systems to meet customer quality, rationalisation and cost requirements
  • Maintain concise records and documentation in the form of a project folder to allow complete traceability of the projects development
  • Create and complete Engineering Change Notes
  • Assist in initiating and maintaining relationships with external suppliers
  • Support structural designs using simple calculations and FEA software
  • Support prototype build phase when necessary / support trial builds
  • Develop and manage BOMS including the selection / approval of materials suitable for functionality / application, P diagram and DFMEA.
  • Responsible for flow of data from customer to supplier
  • Be aware of and work within allocated design budget and time constraints

About you:

You will have a background in Design Engineering specifically in polymers and automotive components. Complex assemblies and A class surfaces and will ideally have experience in 3D CAD systems. It’s important that you are flexible and able to manage your own time effectively. Attention to detail is key along with a methodical and analytical approach to your work. At times you will be required to work independently and you may be required to travel to visit customers and suppliers so you will need good communication skills and be happy to travel when necessary (this could be in the UK or globally)

3D CAD, ideally Catia V5

Experience in a lead role, managing a project from concept to manufacture is essential.
