Lead Data Engineer / Software Engineer – UK/Remote£90k - 110k basic + bonusMy client, a leading Publishing House Is looking for a hands-on Lead Data/Software Engineer and Coder to join there growing team.Every day their newsbrands reach millions of people around the country. There network of over 50 websites provides 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz stories, with several billion page views per year.This role can be fully remote or hybrid working – your choice !Job IntroductionWe are looking for Principal Engineers to join our cutting edge Data Products team, working with machine learning and leveraging our data lake and in-house analytics platform.Our team is made up of engineers and data scientists. We are friendly, highly collaborative and we design and maintain our own solutions as a team, from concept to deployment - including monitoring and reporting - using a combination of technologies.We deploy our services on AWS and use EC2, Lambda, Postgres, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch and other services, and write software in JavaScript, Python and other languages. Software developed by our team includes our analytics platform, which handles over a billion events per month, and our in-house machine learning recommendation system.Key ResponsibilitiesThe opportunity to work with design, build and deploy services used by millions of peopleWork with Big Data, Data Lakes, Machine Learning and a wide range of modern technologiesWork in a team of highly skilled data scientists and software engineersTraining and professional developmentThe Ideal CandidateIf you don’t have all the specific skills below but think you might be a good fit for what we are looking for, we’d love to hear from you!Familiarity writing software in JavaScript (Node.js) and/or PythonExperience deploying software to the cloud (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure, Heroku, Netlify, Vercel) and/or publishing software (e.g. GitHub, NPM, PyPi)Experience using databases - SQL (e.g. Postgres, MariaDB, MySQL) and/or NoSQL (e.g. MongoDB, Elasticsearch) is beneficialPrior experience working in a collaborative, agile environment (e.g. Scrum, Kanban), and scoping and estimating work is beneficialEnjoys working collaboratively and learning new platforms, technologies and skills
