Our ambitious multi-million pound plans to develop our sites are well underway, including developing RBH as the major acute and emergency hospital in East Dorset, PH as the major planned care hospital, and ambitious plans for Christchurch to support on-going patient treatment.

We have received fantastic support from the Robert White Charity fund to develop our Paediatric Oncology Team at University Hospitals Dorset.

We are therefore delighted to be able to recruit into a permanent 0.5 WTE Band 8b Lead Psychologist. Initially based at Poole Hospital the post holder will join a small friendly psychology team in delivering exceptional psychological care to children and their families who attend the Children’s Unit. They will also work closely with the oncology tertiary team at University Hospital Southampton.

Primarily the post holder will take a lead in developing psychological services within the Paediatric Oncology service. They will provide highly specialist assessments, including neuropsychological assessment, therapy and care planning to children/young people and their families/carers. They will act as a highly specialist resource to other professions in the team, outside agencies and service stakeholders. The successful candidate will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team and a key aspect of the role is the provision of supervision, teaching, training, and consultation. They will also be expected to carry out service evaluation, audit, research and service development. The post holder will lead in the recruitment of further members of the team and take on their management.

Clinical and professional supervision will be provided by an external supervisor.

This opportunity is suited to someone who is creative, innovative and can demonstrate excellent clinical, communication skills whilst demonstrating compassion and flexibility within this busy service.
