Job Title: Land-based Instructor

Salary Range: £ 16 - 22/ hour depending on experience and skills.

Contract: Permanent/term time/hourly paid

9.30am – 2.30pm - 05 – 20hrs/week tbd at interview.

We are delighted to offer a vacancy for the role of hourly paid Land-based Instructor. This is an exciting opportunity to join our small friendly team to work with a range of large and small animals and a small cohort of young people and adults in a multisensory, therapeutic setting.

The post holder will be responsible for the planning and delivery of Entry level - Level 1 qualifications in land-based subjects to young people aged between 16 – 25 with or without an education, health and care plan.

This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to deliver qualifications in a vocational way, having access to a variety of animals in a relaxed, but professional setting.

Person Specification

We would like to welcome someone who is passionate about educating young people in a nurturing environment and has experience working with animals. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, engaging and eager to share their knowledge in an inspiring way. The post holder must be creative in the way that they deliver qualifications, ensuring that an array of learning styles are catered for. Being a good communicator, compassionate and driven to help people to meet their individual targets is imperative and having a good sense of humour is essential!

The role will require somebody to be motivated, physically active and demonstrate practical land- based activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To demonstrate, teach and assess as directed within land based and functional skills subject areas.

2. Deliver teaching, learning and assessment, which meet quality targets set internally and externally.

3. Assess portfolios and provide constructive feedback outside of contact time.

4. Design learning materials and assessments to defined quality standards for practical and classroom learning environments.

5. To maintain resources and prepare and set up physical materials and equipment for land based related activities.

6. To develop schemes of work in accordance with the qualification delivery and enrichment programmes.

7. To design and deliver engaging practical land- based activities that encompass functional

skills.

8. Keep accurate, up to date records on student/trainee progress.

9. Inform the directors on student progress.

10. Take part in programme team meetings and other meetings as required.

11. To provide pastoral support.

12. To attend team meetings, events and outside events as required.

13. To ensure all students are aware of the health and safety guidelines.

14. To carry out animal husbandry tasks as required.

15. Contribute to procedures and quality assurance measures.

16. Supervise students during unstructured break times.

17. Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people they are responsible for, or come into contact with.

18. Undertake any other reasonable duties requested by the directors.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential Desirable

Teaching/mentoring experience A Teaching Qualification

GCSE grade A-C or equivalent in Maths and Experience of providing pastoral support to

English students

Knowledge and practical experience in the Experience of delivering and assessing land-based sector functional skills Entry level – Level 2

Experience/Knowledge of specialist A degree or equivalent in a relevant subject education/ learning environment

Experience of delivering to groups of Vast experience working with small and large vulnerable students, including those who are animals with animal welfare as a priority. neurodiverse, have an EHCP, mental health conditions.

Ability to work in a way that promotes the A1 Assessors Award or equivalent V1 safety and wellbeing of young people and Internal Verifiers Award or equivalent vulnerable adults

Flexible, able to adapt to changing situations Experience of providing pastoral support to students

Excellent interpersonal skills to work as a team member and to communicate effectively with students and colleagues

Self motivated and the ability to motivate others.

Ability to use initiative

A friendly personality with the ability to create a rapport with learners.

Ability to demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of Equality & Diversity.

Ability to demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults

Experience working with small and large animals with animal welfare as a priority.
