As Laboratory Technician, your role will be to perform laboratory tests using data logging equipment, recording data in handwritten format and entering it into bespoke data processing templates. The test data you create will then provide the basis for the design and modelling of buildings and infrastructure.

There is also potentially opportunity to work on site; monitoring and testing in the field and assisting geotechnical engineers on overwater drilling vessels

This job is for you if:

  • You enjoy the responsibility of running projects autonomously and taking ownership of your work
  • You have a strong eye for detail and are able to competently and accurately follow set procedures and national standards whilst remaining focused on repetitive work
  • You are proactive and can work independently or as part of a team

Who you’ll be working with:

On a daily basis you will work with our established soil and rock laboratory team as well as the wider Fugro staff and site staff including drillers, geotechnical engineers and project managers.

Here’s what a typical day would be like:

  • Taking part in team toolbox talk prior to shift activities
  • Preparing soil and rock samples for testing
  • Carrying out various tests on soil/rock samples to client specifications
  • Taking responsibility for your own Health and Safety and that of others around you

Who we’re looking for:

Essential

  • GCSE English, Maths and Science Grades 1-4 or equivalent qualifications
  • Completed apprenticeship or served at least 2 years as a Trainee Technician (consideration will also be given to candidates with no experience, who can demonstrate the necessary aptitude to carry out this line of work)
  • General computer literacy including Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communication, teamwork, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Adaptive to changing context of work tasks
  • Ability to work in a safe and risk aware manner

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in a laboratory
  • Full UK Driving License

What we’ll offer you:

Benefits of this role include a competitive salary accompanied by an attractive package including contributory pension scheme, life assurance, 20 days annual leave and private medical insurance.
