Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity at our Waters site in Buxton; we are looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our team. This is a great opportunity to start a career within the quality function for the right candidate who possess an inquisitive mindset and able to manage multiple tasks.

A day in the life of Laboratory Technician

Reporting into the Hygiene Manager. you will be an integral member of the Quality team, you will be responsible for providing professional support by performing and timely communicating the necessary quality tests and analyses required for product safety and quality (i.e. chemical, microbiological and sensory for products, intermediate products, raw materials and packaging).


Key responsibility will include:


  • Undertaking routine testing of products including chemical, microbial and sensory analysis.
  • Chemical analysis will include pH, conductivity and spectrophotometry, micro analysis will involve TVC, pathogen identification and plating using filtration method
  • Calibration and maintenance of equipment
  • Working to appropriate COSHH, hygiene, food safety and H&S standards, in a GLP environment
  • Recording and reporting of results, highlighting deviations and out of spec samples as necessary
  • General lab housekeeping

What will make you successful

To be successful in this role it is key that you will be able to build relationships and multi task a variety of tasks at the same time. You will need a strong service orientation and be able to demonstrate a genuine passion to develop yourself further. You may be a recent graduate with some experience or an established laboratory technician.


Other key attributes will be:


  • Educated to a degree or similar standard in a chemistry or biology science-based course or equivalent
  • Previous practical experience within a laboratory environment – this could be food, pharma, chemicals, environmental or life sciences industry.
  • Ability to plan and deliver against tight deadlines and manage multiple initiatives at the same time.
  • Proactive and enthusiastic mindset.
  • Good Computer skills.
  • Analytical mind set
