Laboratory Technician

Job Summary Avantor Services is the behind-the-scenes team that makes lab and production operations more efficient and competitive, ultimately helping you test theories, improve products, and bring your scientific advancements to the world as quickly as possible.

The Lab Technician’s role is lab-based and supports scientists across R&D functions allowing them, to concentrate on their core responsibilities.

Key tasks:

Preventative maintenance, cleaning & documentation of several laboratory instruments
Management of consumables & reagents
Maintain and organise laboratory consumable inventories
Laboratory housekeeping, monitoring and keeping communal areas clean and tidy, waste management and specialist equipment user performance checks if required
Receipt and unpacking of temperature-sensitive parcel deliveries
Aliquoting of tissue culture reagents (use of aseptic techniques)
Driving FM service Delivery

Skills, knowledge & competencies:

GCSE Maths and English and an interest in Science
Full training will be given, previous experience in a laboratory or pharmaceutical/food manufacturing environment desirable but no essential.
Ability to understand and follow Health & Safety instructions.
Computer Literate

Position Overview

Avantor Services provides laboratory solutions to leading businesses in the life science industry.

We have an opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join their lab and production operations team at AstraZeneca.

you will be helping to test theories, improve products, and bring your scientific advancements to the world as quickly as possible

Location: Granta Park, Great Abington, Cambridge

Working hours: Monday-Friday (Core working hours)

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

• Stock management - daily consumable replenishment at the point of use, utilising site inventory system this will include maintenance of lab consumables, identifying alternative products to roll out in the event of supply issues – preventing disruption to science

• Routine decontamination of incubators, water baths, class II cabinets, and other equipment relevant to the site as well as the calibration of pH meters and balances and defrosting of fridges & freezers. You and the team will also be responsible for Laboratory housekeeping, tidying stock rooms, cleaning sinks etc

.Provide occasional operational support to the glass wash team in times of absence and high work load. Duties would include routine PH check cover, glassware collection and distribution.”

• Receipt and unpacking of parcel deliveries, including temperature sensitive and alternatively, regularly check chemical and reagent expiry dates and arrange disposal of any out-of-date material via the correct waste disposal route

.

• Communicate with the lab management teams regularly to understand what support they need in the lab and stores operations as well as proactively identify and support operational efficiencies by implementing process improvements

Experience Required

• Experience of working in a laboratory environment
• Good time management skills, ability to be flexible and handle multiple responsibilities and tasks on a regular basis
• Good problem-solving capabilities and confidence to react promptly to deliver the best service
• Proven excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively possible
