Mercian Science is one of the counties leading independent water testing laboratories and to help us provide our services we are looking for keen and enthusiastic Laboratory Technicians to join our chemistry section to undertake the analysis of water an closely related materials.

This role reports to the Senior Chemist and involves all aspects of routine analytical chemistry analysis and laboratory quality control. It includes sample preparation and processing, general wet chemistry and assisting in metals analysis by ICP, routine quality control checks, inputting results and project work.

Key Accountabilities and Key Tasks

1.

ANALYTICAL

§ Ensure that all analysis is undertaken in a timely manner

§ Ensure standard methods are undertaken in accordance with UKAS requirements

§ Ensure that all elements of the sample track are completed according to laboratory and customer requirements

§ Assist in ad hoc project work and method development

2.

ADMINISTRATION

§ Assist in the maintenance of client records.

§ Assist with the maintenance of appropriate stock levels of laboratory consumables.

4.

QUALITY CONTROL

§ Adherence to all accreditation criteria

§ Accurate completion of quality control documentation

5.

RESULT ENTRY

§ Enter results onto the laboratory computer system

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Minimum of A-level in a scientific discipline, GCSE-level maths & English

EXPERIENCE

Desirable

  • Previous laboratory experience in a similar field
  • Use of ICP

  • good communication skills
