Job Description

Working hours for this role are Monday to Friday, on a rotating shift pattern of 11:00 till 19:00 and 13:00 till 19:00.

• Ensure that all work carried out complies with documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work, that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded, that samples are handled correctly, that worksheets are kept in an orderly manner
• Supervision of staff in relevant section of the laboratory to ensure efficient operation of the laboratory
• To ensure that all equipment is kept within recommended limits for calibration and maintenance in order to adhere to quality targets
• Ensure that production work is conducted in a clean and tidy manner with due attention to the careful maintenance of all laboratory fittings and equipment
• Advise Laboratory Manager/Coordinator without delay of any problems affecting operations in relevant area of the laboratory
• Ensuring that any relevant paperwork related to the production of media is kept up to date
• A flexible approach to work will be required to help assist other departments as and when required
• Responsible for maintaining some stock inventory in relevant areas of the laboratory
• Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Manual in order to ensure compliance at all times with the policies, procedures and associated documents which are referred to in the manual
• Recruitment of new staff and ensuring engaging and informative induction in place that gives new starter key skills and techniques to perform their role to a high standard
• Run team briefing meetings on a regular basis to keep team updated and briefed on key matters relating to the site, customer and the team
• Lead site induction and Health and Safety induction for new starters

• Responsible for promoting a professional image of the Company and for complying with the company’s Equal Opportunities and Harassment Policies at all times, including work related events which take place outside normal working hours

• Read and comply with company rules, procedures, agreements and any notices displayed by the Company
• Any other reasonable tasks as delegated by the line manager
• Act as a deputy to the Laboratory Manager/Laboratory Coordinator and Training Manager/ Training Coordinator

Qualifications

• Minimum of HND in biological sciences (or equivalent) is essential
• Experience in a food testing laboratory
• Good communication skills
• Excellent organisational ability
• Effective leadership skills
• High level of attention to detail
