The Recruitment Co are currently recruiting a Lab Supervisor / Metallurgical Engineer to join our clients growing team that work within the automotive industry based in the Llanelli area.Contract: PermanentSalary: £34,500Hours of work: DAYS. Mon-Thurs 8am-4.330pm, Fri 8am-1pmYou will be Responsible for maintaining the efficient operation of the metallurgical laboratory to ensure all customer and company internal test requirements are met in a safe & timely manner and to provide technical / metallurgical support where necessaryQualifications
  • Educated to a minimum Degree in an Materials/Metallurgical discipline
Key Tasks / Responsibilities
  • Material microstructure analysis for heat treatment
  • Generation and management of laboratory documentation and Lab Scope
  • Devise and provide all appropriate training required for the safe and efficient operation of the lab
  • Overseeing the operation and maintenance of the Welding Expert weld bead measurement system
  • Monitoring and management of staff time and attendance records
  • Provide lab assistance where required (e.g. prototype or verification builds)
  • The carrying out of any competency training and staff appraisals in line with the company requirements
  • Carrying out analysis of internal concerns / weld improvements
  • Manage the performance of a small laboratory team
  • Analysis and reporting of customer products which have been returned under the warranty system
  • Ensuring that test schedules are met with regards to customer specified testing frequencies
  • Champion to promote compliance to company systems, procedures and control plan requirements
  • Monitor relevant KPIs and report where necessary
  • Monitoring of laboratory issued internal concerns
Key Requirements
  • A good working knowledge of metal forming and fabrication, including MIG/MAG and spot welding processes
  • An appropriate qualification in Materials/Metallurgical Engineering ( e.g. Degree)
  • 5 years + experience of chemical or coating or paint process ( can include education)
  • The ability to interpret engineering drawings and apply relevant customer specifications
  • 5 years + experience of Heat Treatment ( can include education)
Knowledge / Experience
  • Ability to plan and manage resources to achieve objectives and priorities despite conflicting agendas and multiple deliverables
  • Have a methodical, common sense approach to tasks
  • The ability to lead and motivate a team to achieve the desired results
  • Have strong decision making abilities, to be able to react positively to the information given
  • Have excellent communication skills and display a strong interpersonal awareness
