We are currently working in partnership with one of the UK’s Lighthouse Labs, UK Biocentre in Milton Keynes. Due to an increase in testing for COVID-19, we are recruiting for additional Laboratory staff.
**START DATES OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS**
This is a really exciting opportunity to assist with the COVID-19 pandemic - No previous Lab Experience required, so if you are keen to develop your career within the scientific field, then this role would be ideal for you!
Current contract length for this position is until March 2022, however could be extended. We are looking for candidates that are within a commutable distance of Milton Keynes that can commit to the full length of the contract.
Working Hours: Rotational Shift DAYS 8am-8pm & NIGHTS 8pm-8am, 3 days on 2 days off, 2 days on 3 days off (working a 7 day fortnight)
Pay Rate:- £11.00 per hour rising to £12.15 per hour after 12 weeks

Purpose Of The Role

The Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for providing assistance to the laboratory in the availability of all necessary equipment, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), solutions/ reagents and ensuring cleanliness of the laboratory during each shift. The Laboratory Assistant will work closely with the Laboratory Manager, Shift Manager and Section Leads to ensure that testing is able to run at maximum capacity and efficiency by providing support services to all areas of the laboratory.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide support services to the laboratory
  • Work closely with the Laboratory Manager, Shift Manager and Section Leads to ensure all individual process areas can perform efficiently
  • Ensure all PPE is cleaned and rotated as required to ensure adequate provision is provided in a timely manner for each shift.
  • Make up solutions/ reagents where necessary
  • Provide laboratory consumables to process areas
  • Ensure waste is cleared efficiently from the laboratory
  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment

  • Previous experience of working in a laboratory

  • Ability to troubleshoot issues
  • Ability to thrive in new situations
  • Good communication and proactive attitude
  • GCSE Maths and English at pass level or equivalent qualification
Desirable Criteria
  • Understanding of laboratory functionality
  • Previous experience of making up solutions through dilutions etc
  • Experience of using Microsoft Excel
