The KTP Project:

The KTP Associate will lead a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project that is a collaboration between Durham University and Procter & Gamble (P&G) based in Newcastle. The Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) scheme helps businesses to innovate and grow through the aid of discipline specific academic expertise. It does this by linking them with an academic supervisory team and a researcher in a university to work on a specific project.

Working alongside Dr L.Fuller in the upstream innovation team at P&G, the KTP Associate will be involved in a project to design, develop and implement a model for sustainable supply chain development.

The successful candidate will be working with academics in the Department of Marketing and Management. The Marketing and Management Department conduct world leading and impactful research in the areas of leadership and followship, innovation and technology management, organisation and society and marketing/

Specific responsibilities:

  • The associate will be responsible for developing a framework for evaluation of emerging technology feasibility in chemical supply chains and impact on Net Zero.
  • The associate will conduct a landscape assessment of existing as well as novel sustainable chemical manufacturing processes.
  • The associate will apply knowledge of Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and Technoeconomic Analysis (TEA) to the evaluation and comparison of chemical manufacturing processes.
  • The associate will develop a framework to evaluate and monitor the suppliers

Location:The KTP Associate will be employed by Durham University but will be based at Procter & Gamble, Newcastle, and will be expected to spend time in Durham University to undertake the partnership’s objectives.

Essential:

Qualifications

  • A good first degree in Chemistry or Engineering
  • A Masters or PhD in Chemistry, Engineering, or equivalent experience

Experience

  • Experience of Life Cycle Assessment Projects
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate verbally and written project results to a variety of audiences including non-specialists
  • Evidence of ability to write reports and data analytics

Skills

  • Fundamental knowledge of chemical production process
  • Good understanding of process engineering
  • Excellent analytical skills with experience in Life Cycle Assessment
  • Understanding or experience of LCA, using software packages
  • Ability to develop models for chemical production processes

Attributes

  • Ability to work and communicate with both specialists and non-specialists

Desirable:

  • Understanding of technology management and new venture evaluation
  • Experience in modelling of chemical production process
  • Demonstrable ability to work cooperatively as part of a team
