The Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) and Microsoft Research Cambridge are looking for a security researcher to contribute to our mission of protecting Microsoft and our customers. The candidate will be part of the Vulnerabilities and Mitigations team at MSRC and the Confidential Computing group at MSR Cambridge, and will be based at MSR Cambridge. This role offers a unique opportunity to work with researchers, security responders, and product teams to develop novel security techniques and apply them in practice.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will undertake cutting-edge research in the field trustworthy machine learning, or a related field of relevance to MSRC and MSR. Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
  • Security and privacy attacks against machine learning systems (e.g. adversarial examples, data poisoning, membership/attribute inference, model stealing);
  • Scalable detections and mitigations for the above attacks on machine learning systems;
The successful candidate will be expected to work with MSRC and MSR to frame a research agenda and organize their own time. They will share their findings with security responders and product groups, as well as via publications in recognized academic venues.

Required

Qualifications
  • Proven track record in research, as evidenced by high-quality publications;
  • Appropriate background and familiarity with recent research in the field of trustworthy machine learning;
  • Software development skills and experience;
  • Creative and collaborative approach to problem-solving;

Preferred
  • Experience with natural language models (e.g. BERT, GPT, etc.);
  • Interest in software vulnerabilities or hardware-based trusted execution environments;
