The Sir Robert Woodard Academy, part of the Woodard family of schools, is a thriving 11–18 Academy serving primarily the students of Lancing, Sompting and West Shoreham, though we welcome students from all surrounding areas. We are committed to ensuring that every student is known and nurtured and is provided with teaching and learning experiences that allow them to fulfil their potential.

An exciting opportunity has arisen from September 2021 for someone with the right knowledge, skills and experience to take on the role of Pastoral Support Officer. This is a key school role at the heart of working with our students and their families, to remove barriers to learning and help students achieve their personal best. It is a demanding yet rewarding role and requires someone with an engaging personality and the confidence and ability to motivate and quickly gain the respect of others.

The successful candidate will:-
• show an excellent understanding of student behaviour at secondary age
• have warmth, patience and empathy and the ability to motivate young people and build their self-belief
• be experienced in resolving challenging pastoral issues, using a range of strategies and resources as needed
• be comfortable acting as a first responder with the resilience and confidence to prioritise and work under pressure
• have the knowledge and skills to address different barriers to learning
• be able to build and maintain strong professional working relationships with staff colleagues, parents/carers and external agencies
• display high levels of tact, diplomacy and discretion
• be a strong team player, supportive of others but also comfortable working independently
• have a good working knowledge of safeguarding legislation
• possess excellent organisation, administration, communication and IT skills
• understand the importance of good record keeping
• be First Aid trained or willing to undertake training
