Summary

Want to create an amazing programme and visitor experience for Bath Assembly Rooms, to reclaim its place as Bath’s premier social destination?

As the Experience & Visitor Programming Manager you’ll lead the strategic planning and the day to day management of Bath Assembly Rooms once the National Trust takes on their direct management from March 2023. We are recruiting this exciting role now to enable you to plan our emergent programme of visitor and community engagement activities for 2023 and 2024, and to work collaboratively alongside our existing project team who are developing ambitious plans for a new visitor attraction in Bath Assembly Rooms to open in 2025. You’ll be recruiting and line managing the operational team for Bath Assembly Rooms including Visitor Experience, Facilities Management and Business Services, you’ll lead staff in all of these areas. We anticipate that the operational team will need to grow, particularly following the completion of the new visitor attraction in 2025, and you’ll have the opportunity to help shape and recruit the future team.

What it’s like to work here

This role presents a unique opportunity to shape plans and deliver experiences as we enter a new era for Bath Assembly Rooms under direct National Trust management. At Bath Assembly Rooms we are aiming to reinvent an 18th century entertainment palace for a 21st century public. Our vision is to create an immersive and transportive experience which inspires people to connect, interact and take part. We will create a world class offer recreating the social whirl of the Georgian season, as well as providing fascinating context about Georgian social history. We will also develop and deliver a public programme of events which bring people together for fun and entertainment which connects to the people of Bath and beyond through contemporary cultural experiences.

Bath Assembly Rooms sits within the National Trust Bath Portfolio which also includes Dyrham Park, Prior Park Landscape Garden, Bath Skyline and Bathampton Meadows.

What you’ll be doing

Working closely with the General Manager, you will be part of the Portfolio Leadership Team (PLT) and you’ll hold responsibility for the strategic planning and overall management of the visitor experience and property facilities of Bath Assembly Rooms. Your role will be to shape and deliver our public programming for Bath Assembly Rooms alongside leading the day to day operation of the site from March 2023 onwards.

From March 2023 to 2025 we will operate Bath Assembly Rooms for ‘meanwhile’ uses as we develop and deliver our plans for the future visitor attraction. You’ll lead the delivery of the active use of the building throughout this period, which might include developing programmes of guided tours of the building, facilitating access for community engagement, and working alongside cultural partner organisations to deliver key events for the city on site. Alongside this, you’ll be working with our project team to support the creation of our new visitor experience and develop our public programming for 2025 onwards.

You’ll create a collaborative team who will deliver our strategic objectives through experiences and programming. You’ll work with colleagues across the portfolio, with our regional consultancy and central teams, and external partners and stakeholders as we develop our plans for Bath Assembly Rooms.
