Job Purpose

A Junior Project Planner provides support to the Project function in all aspects of the project relating to scheduling.

Responsibilities

Project Tendering
  • Under the supervision of the Planning Manager/Senior Planner, support the preparation of tender schedules.
  • Working with bid teams to detail the project schedule.
  • Inputting cost and schedule estimates and quotations into the overall project schedule
  • Support the Planning Manager/Senior Planner with production of analysis on:
  • Deliverability of the schedule
  • Integrity of the schedule
  • Resource Requirements
  • Participate in the Risk Management process and ensure that outputs are reflected in the tender schedule.
Project Planning
  • Under the supervision of the Planning Manager/Senior Planner, support the preparation of contract schedules.
  • Working with the project teams to plan resource requirements, project milestones and deliverables.
  • Generating resourced and costed schedules of work (Primavera P6), including critical path analysis
  • Support the Planning Manager/Senior Planner with incorporating schedules from sub-contractors to generate overall project schedules.
  • Support the Planning Manager/Senior Planner with production of analysis on:
  • Deliverability of the contract schedule
  • Integrity of the schedule
  • Resource Requirements
  • Input to key planning documents such as Project Execution Plans, Risk Register (schedule impacts), Delivery Schedule etc.
Project Implementation
  • Under the supervision of the Planning Manager/Senior Planner, support the management, tracking and controlling of the project.
  • Reviewing, updating and maintenance of project schedules, including costs and resources, underpinning of forecast data and identification of areas of concern.
  • Monitoring performance against schedule and gaining regular updates on project task completion from the project team, internally and for sub-contractors.
  • Support the Planning Manager/Senior Planner with production of analysis on project variances, including Earned Value Analysis.
  • Support the Planning Manager/Senior Planner with ensuring any changes that affect schedule and costs are captured on the project schedules and impacts documented.
  • Reporting internally on project performance in relation to scheduling.
  • Generating and reporting regular project data such as spend profiles, budgeted, and earned values, forecasts, etc.
Key Skills
  • Experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment, preferably project-based environments
  • Numerate and competent with financial concepts, cost tracking and reporting
  • Good analytical skills
  • Highly orderly, methodical and process driven.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good general office computer skills
  • Self-Motivated to develop a career within Planning and Project Delivery
Qualifications
  • Minimum of five GCSEs
  • APM/ACostE membership desirable, but not essential
  • Project Controls and/or Project Management Qualification (RQF Project Controls, PMQ, PRINCE2) desirable but not essential.
