Based: SSL, Begbroke Oxford

Reporting to: R&D Support Team Leader

Conditions:Full time, salaried

As part of the R&D team, you will be responsible for mechanical designs and integrating hardware solutions. The design work will be very varied using solid works as the main design tool. You will also be responsible for generating Artworks, BOMs, manufacturing drawings and building prototype assemblies. The role is very hands on, and you’ll be involved in development from concept to final delivery.

The nature of the job requires good teamwork and organizational skills. The role is suited to someone who has had some design experience and is ready to learn new skills to complete product developments.

Main Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Computer aided design/modelling using Solid Works as the primary design tool.
  • Creating concept models and packaging electronic assemblies.
  • Generating BOMs, production drawings and sourcing materials.
  • Creating Graphics and Artworks.
  • Building prototype assemblies and supporting with environmental testing.
  • Seeking out engineering knowledge, awareness of materials and manufacturing techniques.
  • A focus on continues improvement, design for manufacture and service.
  • Self-development and growth to learn the skills necessary to complete the task required.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Graduate Calibre in Engineering, ideally with a Mechanical Degree.
  • Engineering/Production background with industry experience would be advantageous.
  • Mechanical and metal work fabrication skills.
  • Production Tooling and 3D printing knowledge.
  • Computer literate with familiarity of Microsoft Office, Graphics and CAD packages.
  • Electronic knowledge, circuitry, wiring and looming.
  • Understanding of Safety and Compliance requirements for product designs.

Person specification:

  • Self-motivated. With the capability to work in a team or as an individual with minimum supervision.
  • Able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines and engineering targets.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a logical manner.
  • Strong organizational skills, proactive attitude with a high focus on teamwork.
  • Analytical, with good attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
  • High level of technical competence coupled with strong problem-solving skills.
  • The strength not to be happy with the status quo and be outward looking.
