Junior Mechanical Design Engineer

Are you looking for a new opportunity within Design Engineering? Here at KDC we are looking for a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to join and work with our onsite team of experienced designers to develop Major or Minor modifications to existing aircraft based in Boscombe Down. There is a constant flow of projects which are required to modify fixed wing and rotary aircraft to Flight Test standard or to modify the aircraft of an external customer.

Project Description

Reporting to the onsite KDC Team Lead you will be required to carry out the following tasks:

  • Supporting a team of electrical and mechanical, avionics and structural engineers to provide key 3D models and design support to aircraft modifications engineering.
  • Creation/modification of models and drawings as required
  • Ability to interface with customer in a professional manner and develop the image of KDC
  • Work to required quality and technical standards through an onsite KDC Design Team Lead.
  • Support the development of the Design capabilities at KDC

Essential Skills

  • SolidWORKS
  • Intermediate level design capability and problem solving skills
  • Ability to complete, through supervision, aircraft repair and modifications
  • Good engineering systems installation design experience across aircraft repair and modification design, systems integration, electro-mechanical design.

Advantageous Skills

  • Understanding of aircraft repairs methods, metallic and composite
  • Familiarity with avionics and aircraft electrics.
  • Understanding of aircraft fluid mechanical systems.
