Job overview

We are looking to recruit highly motivated clinical fellows to join our growing team at The Royal Oldham Hospital within General Medicine for 12 months – with the possibility of extending beyond this. These posts are day time duties Monday to Friday 8 am - 4 pm and do not include any on-call commitments although they can be added on an ad-hoc or rota basis if desired.

There are four acute medical wards within the directorate of general medicine, covering the following areas – Cardiology, Diabetes/Endocrinology, Care of the Elderly and Respiratory. The post holder will be based on one of these wards, dependent on their interests and the requirements of the service. You will need to have full registration with the General Medical Council and demonstrate excellent clinical and communication skills.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to take part in the assessment and management of acute patients admitted to the ward. Take part in the daily assessment of patients, initiate management of these patients and perform procedures (under supervision as needed). The Respiratory ward this will also include patients requiring non-invasive procedures.

The post offers an opportunity to develop your clinical skills within a specific clinical specialty, with the potential to rotate between specialties if desired. It will also include the opportunity to attend regular grand round, x-ray and M & M meetings as well as provide the opportunity to gain experience in service development and quality improvement.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council and a valid license to practice with the General Medical Council
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences or evidence of equivalent training and expereince
  • Previous expereince of working within the NHS
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of post graduate qualification

Expereince and clinical skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstration of aquisition of the level of knowledge and skills necessary
  • Proven ability to take clinical history and undertake examination
  • Knowledge of the workings of the NHS
