Operations Manager – Wednesbury

The Role

The Transport Operations Manager will assist and facilitate the development and implementation of distribution solutions and strategies across our UK network, mentoring and motivating whilst enhancing service and reducing cost.

The Transport Operations Managers duties and key responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in the customer forecasting, planning, development, and implementation of national distribution solutions for our customers
  • Assisting in distribution planning to ensure efficiency and customer service targets are achieved
  • Leading planning and administration staff by example to effectively control the day to day planning and operation of the transport function
  • Utilising planning and telematic software systems to provide detailed reports on cost and efficiency
  • Ensuring the shared resource and manpower are used to their maximum, with the focus being on the most cost-efficient use of drivers and equipment
  • Identifying seasonal and operational fluctuations in volumes and planning the appropriate response regarding fleet and driver availability
  • Raising the profile of the company through networking activities and developing relationships with new and existing customers
  • Participating as required in business-wide projects, as a representative of the distribution operation as a whole
  • Supporting the compliance manager to remain compliant with statutory obligations and company policy and procedure, ensuring working time regulations are met
  • Supporting the H&S Manager to ensure all health and safety, environment and quality is met to a high standard
  • Ensuring all department policies and procedures are documented and are kept up to date
  • Working closely with your planning team, providing direction and leadership to the whole function, driving for sustainable results, raising morale and inspiring individual commitment
  • Managing closely those employees who fail to meet the required standards and prohibit the team from delivering a world class service

  • Ability to absorb and analyse information quickly and accurately
  • Transport Legislation knowledge
  • Ability to prioritise improvement activities for greatest organisational impact
  • Experience of introducing procedural compliance
  • IT literate - Exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Superuser knowledge of Mandata or similar product required
  • CPC qualified
