Senior Clinical Psychologist - Band 8a

0.4 WTE (15 Hours Per Week)

The Cancer Psychology Service provides psychological services to the Cancer teams at the Royal Stoke University Hospital. The service started in 2011, and is now an integral and highly valued component of the wider cancer care pathway. There is potential to develop the service further, and the post holder would be able to influence the direction of the service. The cancer psychology service accepts referrals from a range of professionals, including doctors, specialist nurses and other members of the cancer services team.

Main duties of this post will include individual and group work with outpatients and inpatients, working with clients with a range of psychological difficulties across the span of their cancer care including those in treatment, in recovery and within palliative care. The post-holder will provide group supervision for nursing staff and for a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist and participate in the teaching and training of other staff. There are opportunities to attend the MDTs of some specialties and to present to support groups and be involved psychoeducational events. There are close links with various third sector providers as well as with the psychiatry and adult psychology services within Combined Healthcare.

This interesting and varied post is supported by the wider teams in the Bennett Centre, Stoke-on-Trent. Our expanding Clinical Health Psychology team and Neuropsychology team consist of clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists, psychological therapists, trainee clinical psychologists, assistant psychologists and administrative staff. Our staff use a broad range of models and skills, and work into a variety of specialist areas across inpatient and community services. There is a strong culture of learning and continued professional development which is supported by monthly CPD slots, peer supervision and access to other opportunities within the Trust.
