Society is in your hands, what are you waiting for?

We are currently looking for a talented and motivated individual to join the Carbon team as a Senior Carbon Consultant. The team is part of our recently formed Urban Resilience business unit.

At Sweco we help our clients to select the most efficient and cost-effective carbon reduction options. From early concept stage through to construction, we integrate industry leading carbon management principles within design and procurement processes to go beyond carbon accounting and provide practical carbon/cost consultancy.

Our Carbon team is industry-leading, having won the New Civil Engineer (NCE) Low Carbon Leader award in both 2018 and 2019 and the team delivers carbon/cost advice on critical infrastructure projects both nationally and internationally. Current ongoing work includes supporting delivery of the upgrades to the British Antarctic Survey research station at Rothera, creating whole life carbon assessments for residential and office buildings, developing and delivering net zero strategies for private and public sector clients and developing a net zero blueprint for the upgrade of towns and cities in Africa in the Green City Kigali project.

What does the role involve?

You will be responsible for the design, implementation and management of carbon reduction and sustainability services and projects, helping to ensure that Sweco meets its Infrastructure Carbon Review commitments. You will undertake project management of small to medium sized carbon projects and the carbon elements of larger projects, where appropriate.

You will be an integral part of the Sweco Carbon Team influencing and contributing towards our sustainability strategy, seeking new opportunities and helping to develop this business area, e.g. through writing costed proposals, helping to keep Sweco at the forefront of the low-carbon sector, being a conduit for wider sustainability services and be a (not “the”) principal point of contact for some clients.

To Be Successful In This Role You’ll Possess
  • A Masters in Carbon Management or equivalent.
  • A good knowledge of climate change science, targets and policy.
  • Experience providing carbon management services in the built environment.
  • Experience creating climate chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments.
  • Excellent numerical skills with good attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to prepare clear, well written reports.
  • An inquisitive mind with the ability to come up with solutions.
What’s in it for you?

You’ll be working for a top ten civil engineering firm (recognised by NCE). You’ll experience an inclusive, friendly and flexible working environment where colleagues are encouraged to grow and develop. A meaningful job where you’ll help to transform society by being a trusted consultant to our clients.

If you believe you have the skill set required, are keen to join a business with genuine opportunities for career progression, then we’d love to hear from you.
