CARDIFF CRUISES are searching for seasonal skippers to join the team. Hours are up to 40 per week with some shifts during the weekends and evenings (finishing at 11pm on some nights) depending on demand although this is shared with other skippers. We would prefer someone who already has some of the basic ancillary courses already, but then train them in how to handle the vessel and what to do if an emergency was to happen, equally we are happy to train people with experience in handling vessels if necessary. If you are interested in boats and working on the water and prepared to undertake the courses at your own expense to get up to speed then this is the role for you!

We are expanding our team and require skippers for all our sightseeing tours, parties, jetboat rides and also the Flatholm Ferry.

Day to day involves selling our service to passing customers and helping keep the boat in good order on slower days and assisting with regular training to keep us all ship shape.

The job is easy once you are confident as Cardiff Bay is fairly quiet and the boat you will train on is simple to handle. You need to be able to get to and from Penarth Marina (near The Cardiff Barrage) as our boats dock in this area. The wage is £8.91 whilst training and then £12 per hour once qualified as a Boatmaster or Endorsed Advanced Powerboat.

The company will provide your uniform accessories (don’t panic it’s just a white shirt with rank slides) and a jacket.

We did not operate when there have been increases in covid alert levels and our services are outdoors. We practice good hygiene as standard and encourage anyone to sanitise and wear face masks if they have any doubts.

Experience:

  • sailing: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Basic Fire (preferred)
  • First Aid (preferred)
  • Sea Survival (preferred)
  • ML5/ENG1 Medical Assessment (preferred)
