The Master Data function collects and maintains accurate product and supplier data from external and internal functions, so that it is available to support business processes throughout the typical retail lifecycle of a product ie Plan, Buy, Move, Sell, Exit. This includes management of the supplier and product set up processes.

The Purpose of the Master Data Administrator is to collect and maintain accurate data and use business knowledge, along with the data itself to respond to queries in a professional manner.

The key accountabilities of the Master Data Administrator will include the list below, but as you will be joining an function which is evolving, the accountabilities are also likely to change as we embrace new ideas and make improvements to what we do
  • Collect and maintain accurate data to support the product and supplier set up processes
  • Respond to and resolve queries swiftly
  • Maintain an accurate log of data chasing actions to support progress reporting and escalations
  • Understand the value of complete, accurate data sets and be aware of the issues which can result from poor data management standards
  • Clearly communicate data requirements to 3rd parties
  • Use available data sets to identify inconsistencies, propose and take corrective action
  • Use relevant data to support specific business processses eg changes to product information and range reviews
The successful candidate is likely to have experience in most of the following areas :
  • Experience gathering and maintaining data, ideally within a retail or supply chain role
  • Can identify and understand the consequences of “bad” data or “bad data practices” , identifies potential issues and proposes changes to processes if applicable
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and re-prioritise as required without losing sight of any outstanding actions
  • Attention to detail
  • Good use of Excel to interrogate and manipulate large data sets
  • Logical, analytical approach to working with large data sets – knowing how the data needs filtering to answer a specific business question or problem
  • Uses initiative and all available information to propose solutions to problems as they arise
  • Grasps new concepts quickly
  • Confident manner
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a team
