Job description
Director Ships Operations and Capability Integration is accountable for the through life support operations for the Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary current and future Surface Fleet; Design authority; and the timely capability integration of complex systems across those ships.
Enabling the Royal Navy to deliver operational outcomes in an uncertain environment of constantly changing priorities, supporting Force Generation, is fundamental. And therefore, at it’s heart, this role is about the delivery the Fleet Management portfolio of programmes and ensuring the outputs are integrated to generate worldwide availability for the Navy.
Indirect leadership of industrial partners is an essential requirement, ensuring that the whole support enterprise meets today’s client delivery expectations as bringing about transformation that delivers output improvements and efficiencies through the next decade.
This role is at the heart of the DE&S Strategy Refresh, improving outputs, iterating capability faster than our adversaries and integrating efforts right across the Enterprise.
The incumbent is an Executive Safety Responsible delegation holder, accountable for implementing the Ships Domain Organisation and Arrangement for Safety that assures platforms, systems and equipment are safe to operate across the portfolio. The role also assures environmental compliance and has Airworthiness Notification authority for the platform aspects of Ship-Air integration.
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you’ll need to be able to demonstrate all of the following 6 essential criteria and where applicable the desirable criteria :
- Knowledge and experience of working in a similar role in the Maritime industry or similar complex, highly regulated environment.
- Knowledge of safety in the maritime industry or similar complex, highly regulated environment, acknowledging the need to translate these to the defence sector.
- Experience of delivering multi-million pound assets from design to launch in the maritime or similar complex, highly regulated environment.
- Ability to provide leadership and take a proactive approach in ensuring a high level of safety and environmental performance in the delivery of ships or similar multi-million pound assets, systems and equipment which are safe to operate.
- Demonstration of ability to lead at the strategic level, showing leadership attributes to delivery against a challenging portfolio.
- Demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Additional desirable criteria:
- Knowledge of logistics and end to ends supply chains would be a significant advantage.
- Experience of working in a business environment with significant security and regulatory requirements, such as Defence.
