We now have a fantastic opportunity to join the Commercial Underwriting Motor Trade team as a Motor Trade Underwriter, joining us on a full-time (35 hours p/w) permanent basis as we experience an exciting growth trajectory as we invest in our workforce of the future.

As part of our new smart working strategy at AXA UK, the Motor Trade Underwriter position can be performed as a hybrid role working some days from home and some days in any of our Commercial offices that are local to you including Birmingham, Bolton, Bristol, Glasgow, Ipswich, Leeds, Maidstone, Manchester or Reading and we are very happy to talk flexible working.

AXA Commercial is undergoing significant transformation, with a large portfolio of change projects including a major redesign of the operating model through the Blueprint programme. We are looking for ambitious individuals to take on this challenge and take advantage of this opportunity. The Blueprint programme is built upon the foundation of 9 key changes to the Commercial Operating Model that will deliver the planned GWP, Loss Ratio and Expense Ratio benefits committed to in our strategic business plan. An exciting part of the Blueprint proposition is the creation of a Motor Trade Specialistteam;a virtual and national team that will allow us to deliver consistent and efficient service to Motor Trade customers through a specialised team across the country. It will enable us to show real intent to grow our Motor Trade business and to offer our people in this field a clearer career path. The role of the Motor Trade Underwriter will be key in driving profitable growth through effective underwriting of cases within empowerment; delivery of trading targets and building underwriting relationships with brokers. About theMotor Trade Underwriter role

You will deliver planned financial result through effective underwriting of cases and demonstrate your contribution to loss ratio control by effectively adhering to branch UW controls. As our Motor Trade underwriter, we want you to identify poorly performing accounts and investigate reasons for lack of retention, discuss actions with senior underwriters, Team Managers and Account Managers and implement those actions to increase retention and improve profitability. You will contribute to the development of colleagues by coaching and acting as a ‘point of contact’ to assist with decision making and empowerment of the wider team. You’ll build effective trading relationships with Brokers through trading activity and be recognised as a positive trading partner.

This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to pre-employment screening checks, the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for proactive individuals who have strong decision-making skills and able to role model our AXA Values, Customer First, One AXA, Courage and Integrity. You will understand the Motor Trade appetite and underwriting guide and have experience of handing renewal and/or new business. We need a pragmatic decision making candidate with good analytic and interpersonal skills to be able to do this role effectively. If you have a strong trading capability with commercial awareness, negotiation skills and ability to build strong relationships, this role is for you. Progress towards Dip CII qualification is desirable.
