With its head office and manufacturing operations located in Surrey, UK, Designplan is recognized as an industry leader specializing in the design, manufacture and supply of robust, highly efficient lighting products.

We design for applications that require luminaires which are robustly constructed, reliable and are easy to install and maintain. Our market sectors include community and public, custodial, secure healthcare and transport.

Fagerhult

Fagerhult Group consists of 13 brands organized into four business areas (Collection, Premium, Professional and Infrastructure). There are circa 4,200 employees in 28 countries. All brands produce high-quality professional lighting solutions, mainly working on specifications together with partners. Together, the Group covers almost every professional lighting application with a worldwide presence.

The Role

Joining our IT Manager, the IT Technician will form the other half of the Department. In this role, the IT Technician is responsible for maintaining our IT systems and networks, troubleshooting and diagnosing problems, ssisting employees with IT-related queries and identifying and implementing opportunities for improvements. As with most roles at Designplan, it’s not about maintenance – it’s about value-added initiatives, so continuous improvement is key..

The Responsibilities

The IT Technician operates and maintains computer systems and networks to ensure Designplan users get the most effective IT functionality.

You will be responsible for ensuring the Designplan IT system is fully functional by supporting & administering the 100 user LAN/WAN. This includes client, server and network support.

You’ll play an important role, alongside the IT Manager, in developing and improving the IT system to cater for the Company’s changing needs.

This is a very practical, hands-on role. You’ll be able to hone your skills in a wide variety of aspects of IT. As this is a small team (Technician & Manager), in a medium sized Company, you will be able to get involved in a variety of projects and tasks.

You’ll develop key working relationships with all users within the Sutton HQ, our German Sales office and our remote UK Sales teams. Additionally, you’ll liaise with IT suppliers on a regular basis.

You’ll be required to think with your ‘continuous improvement hat’ and offer ideas and solutions to IT problems and processes.

Ideal Candidate

We want someone who can get stuck in! Our IT Manager is keen on focusing the IT team on value-added initiatives and projects. With this in mind, we need someone who can hit the ground running (after our induction & training, of course).

Due to the size of the team, there will be opportunities where you may be on-site on your own so you should be confident in your ability to prioritise, be a clear communicator and be comfortable in highly pressured situations.

You should have:

  • Experience administering & configuring a Microsoft Windows networked environment (Active Directory, Hyper-V, Windows, Office 365).
  • Experience of IT project implementation.
  • Hands-on software troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience documenting & maintaining configuration and process information.
  • Experience in dealing with clients in a face-to-face environment and providing efficient and proactive support.
  • Excellent communication to various levels (written &spoken).
  • TCP/IP Networking experience.
  • Experience with Firewall Security.
  • Bonus points for experience with Infor Cloudsuite ERP

The ideal candidate would be motivated, disciplined, proactive, process driven and able to work on their on initiative. Able to change priorities quickly and react to ever-changing demands, the ideal candidate will be a problem solver who can prioritize workload.

The Department

We have a team of two in IT (this role included). The IT team reports into our Finance Director. The team, due to the very nature of the responsibilities, is very collaborative and works closely with most of Designplan’s teams.

Role Specifics

With this role there’s scope for flexibility. Given the nature of the business, there is a requirement to be on site a few days a week, but we’re open to chat about flexibility. This is not a remote role, but there’s an opportunity for balance.

Our office is located at 16 Kimpton Park Way (SM3 9QS). Working hours for this role are normally 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (with a 30-minute unpaid lunch). There will be a robust induction and lots of training along the way on systems, products and Designplan generally.

Working at Designplan

We’re big on development and fostering growth – both for the individual and the Company. We use our 3 Cs when we communicate (clear, concise and courteous), and we work best when we’re collaborating and working as a team.

We’re a lean manufacturer and continuous improvement underpins everything we do. We want to simplify doing business with us (and doing business internally across the organization). We encourage active listening and open feedback and welcome suggestions and ideas from everyone in the business.

We support the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and have an active Social Committee responsible for engagement, culture and the community. We’re keen on sustainability and corporate social responsibility is important to us. Our purpose-built manufacturing facility has a low carbon footprint, state of the art building services and on-site renewable energy generation, resulting in a BREEAM Excellent accreditation.

All employees have access to free parking on site, 25 days annual leave + bank holidays, workplace pension scheme, Employee Assistance Program, and discounts to Nuffield Health. We also have a canteen on site with an online service to order lunch for delivery to site. We offer ongoing training, development, and opportunities to get involved in projects and activities outside of your department.

Designplan Lighting are an Equal Opportunities Employer.

The Recruitment Process

We think it’s really important that all candidates see our facility. During the interview process, we’ll invite you in at least once to meet some of the team, see our facility and have a tour of our factory.

We envision this to be a two-stage process likely consisting of a mix of on-site and Teams.

How to Apply

If you are interested in applying for this role, we ask that all candidates submit their CV to our HR Manager or apply via LinkedIn.
