The IT Systems Engineer will work in a team and will be responsible for the single client’s Wintel environment. The role will require the support of systems around the UK and remote support to the Netherlands, which will include user support, installation, patching, configuration, and administration of Windows operating system issues. The IT Systems Engineer will also be involved in the administration and support of LAN and WAN networking, email filtering, cybersecurity, telephony, and supporting the UNIX team as necessary.

Responsibilities & Duties of the IT Systems Engineer

  • Provide business-as-usual/break-fix support for client
  • Ensure that requests logged via the Service Desk platform are completed based on impact and priority
  • Contribute to the IT enhancement backlog
  • Research products & services and make recommendations
  • Contribute to root cause analysis activities
  • Participate in the planning of projects and service transitions of new systems
  • Proactively communicate the status, plan of action(s), and resolution(s) of issues
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any IT service issues related to the Windows infrastructure,
  • Report on the health of IT services
  • Travel to client’s sites around the UK (occasionally overnight / weekend) to provide support, installation of equipment.
  • Achieve and exceed the IT Operations KPI’s and OKR’s by monitoring and maintaining current IT systems and networks; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends and determining system improvements.

Work Experience needed by the IT Systems Engineer

  • 3+ years experience with Windows environment
  • Ideally certified in an area of knowledge
  • Linux and UNIX system knowledge advantageous but not essential
  • General networking knowledge – not vendor-specific

Skills & Abilities required from the IT Systems Engineer

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in user support and problem troubleshooting.
  • Professional customer-focused attitude at all times, even during situations of disagreement.
  • General Windows system administration, security patching, OS upgrades, troubleshooting problems, and ensuring maximum availability
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, proactive, and accustomed to searching out best practices and solutions while adding to the team’s knowledge
  • Responsible operating system maintenance to include, but is not limited to file management, anti-virus updates, security patching, and security audits
  • Assist users and operators on day-to-day issues
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to brief senior management and customers of complex systems
  • Understanding or experience of Disaster Recovery processes
  • Ability to show a level of patience to the client and working team when under stress.
