Job description for IT Developer

A compelling new position has arisen for an experienced developer to join the Digital Automation team within our forward-thinking IM&IT function here at DE&S, based out of MOD HQ Bristol Abbey Wood.

The past two years have involved trialling and delivering RPA and Process Digitisation to the organisation. The last year in particular was extremely successful and as a result, we are looking to double the size of the team.

Working collaboratively with other developers, analysts, architects, the Development Manager and Head of Automation, you will produce targeted improvements to existing business processes across the organisation, using Agile techniques to deliver, iterating weekly and delivering frequently.

You’ll be working with customers from a wide variety of backgrounds across the organisation so collaboration with stakeholders is extremely important as this has been the key to our success.
Responsibilities for IT Developer

  • Identify, define and propose multiple options for software or systems development to decide the most effective way of meeting business requirements, in collaboration with BA’s.
  • Designs, creates, tests and documents new and amended software components from supplied specifications in accordance with agreed development and security standards and processes.
  • Actively participate in defect resolution, to improve the quality of the build and supports onward learning.
  • Promote DE&S digital aspiration and suggest improvement ideas. – Consistently unit test code changes and participate in peer review of code.
  • Support environment management and provide Data set for Testing.
  • Agile Software Development, promote the principles e.g. iterative build & testing.
  • Able to apply technical knowledge and experience to design and create workable prototypes, both programs and physical outputs.
  • Understands parameters, restrictions and synergies and apply this knowledge within solution designs.
  • Active participation in the Application and Development Community.
  • Fulfil Primary Delivery Manager responsibilities for your direct reports
  • Recruit, train and develop Junior & Associate Developers to build capability within the Function.
  • Perform FDO role to improve capability within the function and participate in other function improvement activities.

To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Significant experience of role/s in a Development Team environment and growing capability within the team
  • Mentor, train and develop Junior & Associate Developers
  • Working within the full life-cycle of software delivery

It would benefit your application if you be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

  • Blue Prism and/or Microsoft PowerPlatform
  • Collaboration as a means to achieve a successful outcome e.g. pair programming
  • Growth mindset with evidence of continual learning
  • Experience of applying architectural patterns and software design principles
