As a key member of our IT Operations team, a Database Administrator is responsible for developing, maintaining and enhancing an effective Data Warehouse, Azure SQL Database and MS SQL Server Database environment through collaboration with key business partners, internal IT staff and external contractors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Creation, deployment and maintenance of databases in both development and production environments
- Setup and management of database resilience and backup strategies
- Automation of regular database support activities
- Perform regular database maintenance activities such as data loads, data fixes, database copies, software installs / upgrades / patches, etc
- Working closely with the different stakeholders, recommend and implement database and data warehouse enhancements and release upgrades, ensuring the development is in line with business objectives and standards.
- Identify, report, and fix material bugs and deficiencies in the tools used, utilising internal and external resources
- Database Security, both on-premise and Azure SQL Database.
- Monitor SQL Server Performance, Disk/Memory/CPU, Index Strategy utilization and suggest resolutions.
- Experience in maintaining and optimizing SQL Server performance, including query optimization, indexing, and database tuning.
- Provide 24x5 support for critical production systems
- Proven knowledge of Azure SQL Database
- Proven knowledge of Microsoft Azure Platform in areas related to Data Storage which includes both Data Lakes and Data Bricks
- Proven knowledge of SQL programming
- Proven knowledge and skills in stand-alone SQL Server environment.
- Knowledge of Azure Data Sync setup and maintenance
- Experience with database migration and integration projects, with a focus on Microsoft SQL Server migration projects
- Automation of regular database support activities
- Ability to troubleshoot SQL Server-related issues and perform root-cause analysis.
- Research new database and data storage trends and industry changes
- Recommend and implement ideas for continuous improvement as agreed
- A self-motivated team player
- Excellent oral and writing skills with the ability to communicate in an organised and concise manner
