Reporting to the Director of IT, the Senior IT Applications & Development Manager is a key part of the IT Management team and is responsible for leading the development and maintenance of the Firm’s applications, system, integrations, and data solutions.

Fluent in Agile development practices, the Senior IT Applications & Development Manager will ensure all projects follow the Agile methodology and will manage and oversee all Agile ceremonies.

The Senior IT Applications & Development Manager acts as the SME and authority for the IT Applications and Development function, overseeing and leading a team of 4 IT Applications Developers and providing advice and direction to all levels of personnel within the firm.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will primarily focus on these core areas:

  • Strategy, Governance and Process: the ownership, implementation, and development of robust and applicable development standards, change and demand management processes and technical architecture roadmap.
  • Work with the Director of IT to research and recommend new technologies and services, including Business Case and Proof of Concept
  • Assist in the scoping and selection of new technologies, technical services and contract renewals
  • Technical Management: the implementation of upgrades and new systems and the maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation, automation, and improvement of existing systems.
  • Develop, own and deliver the IT Applications, Data and Integrations roadmap for the firm
  • Manage the development and delivery of new and existing technology solutions, act as an advocate for change management
  • Ensure that application, data, and integration solutions are fit-for-purpose and aligned with development/architectural principles, standards and roadmaps.
  • Own and develop the Software Development Lifecycle for the firm, including coding and development standards, quality assurance and Information Security considerations
  • Own and develop the IT Development Demand Management / Impact Assessment processes
  • Project Management (Development) and Agile:Own the core agile ceremonies, taking the lead of planning, daily stand-ups, review and, retrospective. Schedule and deliver sprint reviews to ensure wider project team are aware of progress. Working closely with the IT Project management Office, provide weekly project activity updates.
  • Assist with the gathering and definition of user requirements where required
  • Lead the IT development phase of projects and support the transition of solutions through to acceptance in BAU
  • Team and people management:Provide leadership and mentoring to the IT Applications Development team, including knowledge sharing (including Key Man Risk areas) coaching, performance reviews and personal development
  • Develop and maintain effective ways of working throughout the department and organisation including process automation and

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Previous experience providing direction and mentoring to the team of Application Developers who develop and build solutions using a variety of technologies (full .NET stack, JavaScript frameworks, MS Dynamics)
  • Expert knowledge of Agile, Scrum and Waterfall development/delivery methodologies including leading and developing Agile ceremonies and processes
  • Managing Agile projects using DevOps to manage application lifecycle
  • Programming (.NET and SQL) skills and knowledge
  • Web development (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery) skills and knowledge
  • Ability to interface and communicate at the business/customer level
