DWP. Digital with Purpose.

DWP is the UK’s biggest government department. Right now we’re taking on a digital transformation that is changing the way we support 25 million daily users, make payments worth £195bn a year and support some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

We’re looking for a skilled communications professional to join our brilliant, award-winning Digital Engagement team.

We’re the communications specialists responsible for telling the story of DWP’s huge digital transformation, of how our expert in-house digital teams are building and modernising DWP’s products and services.

We engage DWP colleagues, build the DWP Digital brand, and help reach the digital experts we need to hire, to deliver a generational change to government products and services.

And we’re good at it - we won LinkedIn’s Best Talent Brand in 2021. The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We’d love you to join us.

Delivery. Work. Projects.

You’ll join our multi award-winning Digital Engagement team. We work at the heart of the DWP Digital, setting out the overall strategy and role for communications and engagement across Digital.

You’ll specifically be supporting the Health, Disability and Benefit Supporting Services team, by developing innovative communication strategies and delivery plans to engage multiple audiences.

We’re building a team which works inclusively and collaboratively across channels and audiences, to deliver innovative communications and engagement activity.

Your job will be to lead a team, driving and delivering strategic internal communications and engagement across Digital Group and DWP. You’ll help people understand, what we’re working on, who we are, and help them feel connected to their work.

As an Internal Communications Manager you will be responsible for:

  • Designing, delivering and evaluating communication and engagement strategies.
  • Taking an evidence-based approach to colleague insight and communications, using multiple data sources
  • End-to-end planning and delivery of events and conferences.
  • Producing timely, relevant, high-quality communications.
  • Providing trusted communications and engagement advice to support your senior leadership team.
  • Providing strong professional leadership - helping your team be at their best, setting performance goals, standards, delivery, budgets and the overall programme of work.
  • Building strong collaborative partnerships across and beyond DWP, to create joined-up strategies, priorities and delivery plans.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • You have the vision and expertise to define and implement internal engagement strategies, across a range of channels, which deliver measurable business outcomes. And the ability to align these effectively at strategic and delivery level with wider communications.
  • Excellent influencing and relationship-building skills at all levels and a highly-collaborative, team-player approach.
  • Strong professional judgement - the ability to deal with ambiguity and a track record of providing clear, balanced, credible advice at senior level.
  • The professional credibility, confidence and interpersonal skills required to advise, support and collaborate with colleagues up to Director level.

Details. Wages. Perks.

You’ll join us in our brilliant digital hub in Newcastle or Manchester.

We also have all the tools and tech we need to enable our people to work flexibly. We work a hybrid model, with a mix of home and office working.

In return for your skills, we offer a competitive salary of up to £60,781.

You’ll be eligible for a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 27.9%.

You’ll get a generous leave package starting at 26 days, plus all the usual bank holidays, and the option to take extra days off on flexi leave.
