Howdens Joinery are looking for an Interior and Event Designer for a 6 month fixed term contract. This role will be based in our office in Howden, Yorkshire. There will also be some travel to other sites and offices. This is a role that would suit someone who has previous trade industry, exhibition, retail or design environment experience, ideally within a fast paced, dynamic organisation.

As an Interior and Event Designer, you will generate and execute design projects ranging from internal and external events to internal interior design requirements and kitchen set designs for image generation, exhibitions and offices. A creative and imaginative designer, you will be able to understand and interpret a design brief to create event displays, design spaces, and bespoke items that are original and technically thought through. You’ll have a variety of experience of designing large scale exhibitions, both internal and external, from interpretation of brief, flow of the event and stand design through to excellent technical drawings for the build.

Reporting to the Design Studio Manager, you will be accountable for scoping out the project requirements with key stakeholders. A great communicator, you will need to be able to build relationships quickly and discuss your ideas confidently, as you’ll be ensuring the smooth running of design build projects and confirming that the correct information and drawing details are communicated to the correct standards and within clear deadlines. We’re looking for someone who is organised with great planning skills, so the ability to drive projects forward, working on individual projects and integrating positively with the wider team to deliver is essential.

Key Experience And Accountabilities
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a fast paced studio or business environment.
  • Exhibition, Interior or other design related Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Competent User Sketchup, and AutoCAD.
  • Experience using Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign & similar layout programmes.
  • Competent User of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Able to manage projects and possess excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications suitable for engaging people at all levels
  • Able to develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Trade industry, furniture, retail or design environment experience is desirable.
  • Experience of working within a corporate design or events environment is desirable.
