The University of Northampton is seeking to appoint an Interim Head of Placements and Work-Based Learning to lead the long-established student placements and work-based learning function across the University.

Supporting the Interim Academic Registrar and the Director of Student Futures during the transition period to establish our exciting new Directorate for Student Futures, this post is an initial 9-month FTC appointment with an ambition to enhance the student experience and support the student lifecycle through the ongoing provision of expert, high-quality in-course placements and work-based learning.

You will lead and develop the function and the team, delivering strategic and operational improvements through effective change management. This is a collaborative role which will see you work closely with other departments, senior managers and external groups, to build relationships and develop opportunities, whilst championing a university-wide approach to student placements and work-based learning. You will focus on service continuity and improvement, with a solution led approach, and drive forward the development of systems to ensure a more streamlined and efficient function.

We are seeking a collaborative and strategic individual with demonstrable experience in work-based learning. You will be a proactive communicator with proven leadership skills and a track record of building strong relationships at a senior level. Proven experience in delivering projects and services on time, including experience of delivering on strategic objectives, will be necessary in the delivery of the university’s student placements and work-based learning strategy.

The University of Northampton is one of the youngest universities in the UK, gaining full university status and research degree awarding powers in 2005. Whilst we may be a ‘new’ University, we have made our impact in the Higher Education sector. We are committed to making a difference to the world around us and doing things differently; for example, we were the first University in the UK to be named as a Changemaker Campus in 2012 and are dedicated to creating social impact in all that we do.
