Post Title: Interim Chief Executive

Location: Inverness

Hours: 35 hours per week

Duration: Fixed Term for 6 - 9 months

Salary: £159,499 (salary award pending)

The Highlands is truly unique and this interim post is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional leader that is ready to begin work immediately to deliver the Council’s organisational vision and strategy. Demonstrable experience in a Chief Executive role or senior leadership level with an understanding of operational complexity across multiple disciplines is key to success. Joining the business before the 23/24 budget is delivered allows contribution to Council efficiencies and its long-term financial sustainability.

The Highland Council has the largest UK local authority landmass. The area includes 6 inhabited islands, nearly 7000km of roads, 90 harbours and marine facilities, 199 schools and 14,500 council houses. Currently the Council has a £900M, 15-year Capital Programme and an annual net revenue budget of £640M to deliver services to 235,430 residents and thousands of annual visitors.

Focusing on a sustainable and brighter future for communities, the programme reflects the collective voice put forward through community engagement and will be delivered through our Corporate Plan .
