Job description
As a Researcher within our Intelligence Directorate, you will:
- Work in partnership with Intelligence Analysts, Officers, and colleagues from across our organisation, sharing intelligence and information in line with relevant standards.
- Evaluate, assess and record information from multiple internal and external sources and conduct research.
- Accurately maintain management activity systems and operational records in accordance with legislation and guidance.
- Input data and maintain record management systems, ensuring there is an effective record management and audit trail.
- Verify and cross-reference how valid information is, to identify and communicate links between different pieces of information.
- Undertake system checks to support our Intelligence Analysts and colleagues across the organisation.
Person specification
We’re looking for Researchers who have:
- Great communication skills – to communicate confidently with a wide variety of stakeholders
- The ability to consider the bigger picture and understand the importance and impact of information gathered
- The ability to learn, and show enthusiasm for, new skills
- Some knowledge of combatting economic crime, including working with law enforcement partners
- Great skills at working as part of a team, as well as working independently
And who have experience of:

Selection process details
All our recruitment at Companies House uses the Civil Service Success Profiles framework, which will assess your behaviours, strengths and experience. In your application form we’d like you to:

What will the process look like?
- If we get a high number of applications we’ll carry out a pre-sift of applications by reading and scoring the 250 word example you’ve written about working together with others. Those applications which are successful at pre-sift stage will then progress to the main sift, where we’ll read and score the rest of your application. If we don’t receive a high number of applications, we’ll read and sift your 250 word example of working together with others alongside the rest of your application.
- Successful candidates at sift will be invited to interview, where we’ll explore your skills, experiences, the behaviours mentioned in the advert and your strengths. There may also be an activity as part of the interview process.
Where will you be working?
This role is based in our Cardiff Office. You will be required to attend the office more regularly for the first few weeks for training purposes. Following this you’ll be asked to attend the office a minimum of 1 day each week.
Please note, for this role we can offer a minimum of 4 days or 30 hours per week for anyone interested in working part time.
Security Check:
Successful candidates must pass a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check before they can be appointed. BPSS is an entry level security check. It uses the Police National Computer (PNC) to make sure a candidate has no convictions. The check returns evidence of any current criminal record and un-spent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

Nationality statement
Candidates will be subject to UK immigration requirements as well as Civil Service nationality rules.
