This is an exciting opportunity as an Intelligence Analyst within Intelligence Team for Tesco Underwriting. You’ll get to contribute to the development and delivery of the fraud prevention and detection strategy; assist in the development and embedding of business operational improvements to identify and control underwriting and claims losses due to fraud and premium leakage. You’ll be a fraud subject matter authority and referral point across TU.

This role is based at the Newcastle office. The role can be part working from home and part office based.

In the role you are accountable for:

  • Act upon information received from anti-fraud software, intelligence sources such as the IFB alerts and other departments to identify fraudulent risks and provide technical advice and guidance. Undertake policy and claims decisions in accordance with the Fraud Strategy and best practice processes
  • In response to fraud or the potential for fraud, assist in the development, embedding and maintenance of systems, processes, and other measures to combat fraud risks and associated premium and claims leakage.
  • Assist in the research, evaluation, and development of effective controls to mitigate the risk of claims and underwriting fraud, including cost effective verification of risk data.
  • Support the implementation of agreed claims and underwriting systems and processes, including the maintenance of policy & claim records and MI data.
  • Support regular quality checking of internal and external teams, providing individual feedback and taking corrective action where appropriate.
  • Work with Tesco Bank, Tesco Claims and Counter Fraud Suppliers to ensure that systems, processes, monitoring arrangements and staff training are appropriate to achieve an acceptable level of underwriting and claims handling quality.
  • Act as referral point for external counter fraud bodies, insurance companies and colleagues across Tesco Underwriting and Tesco Bank.
  • Produce Intelligence reports and claimant profiles relating to high value claims and/or organised fraud rings across claims and underwriting.
  • Represent Tesco Underwriting at external forums and conferences when required.

Experience and skills required

  • Experience of working in an insurance environment is critical.
  • Experience of detection and identification of claims or underwriting fraud is critical.
  • Experience of working in a technical underwriting function or claims fraud function and able to demonstrate an understanding of underwriting principles, fraud processes and recognise risk is important.
  • Able to demonstrate a solid understanding of the personal lines insurance market with exposure to fraud cases and working with counter fraud external bodies.
  • Numerate; with a proven track record to analyse and interpret technical data.
  • Proficient with Microsoft packages, especially Excel.
  • Proven track record to work as part of a team and good organisation skills; able to prioritise work tasks.
  • Good interpersonal skills; able to establish rapport and build and maintain a network of internal and external contacts.
  • Customer focused; able to demonstrate high levels of customer service.
  • Experience of working with counter fraud mapping software is desirable.
