About the job

Summary

As an Experienced Intelligence Analyst, your role will be to conduct complex and wide-ranging analysis in support of the National Crime Agency’s mission; developing intelligence products, such as problem and subject profiles and contributing to the National Strategic Assessment, Annual Plan, National Intelligence Requirements and National Control Strategy to aid the fight to cut serious and organised crime.

Job description

There are a number of roles available within several different departments.

  • National Data Exploitation Capability - The National Data Exploitation Capability (NDEC) is a multidisciplinary team made up of data and technology professionals, intelligence officers and analysts, data management officers and business enablement specialists transforming how the NCA and wider UK Law Enforcement community operate.
By partnering with other organisations, and using advanced data analytics and data science techniques, NDEC creates insights that disrupt and detect serious and organised crime (SOC). NDEC is also responsible for managing the acquisition of data to exploit and enhance the understanding of these SOC threats. NDEC Operational teams are supported by NDEC HQ, a business enablement capability driving NDEC to be more efficient and effective in their work.

  • National Intelligence Hub - The National Intelligence Hub (NIH) is made up of the National Targeting Centre and National Assessment Centre. The Hub is responsible for identifying key priority targets and developing intelligence through its symbiotic relationship with Intelligence Collection and International. The NIH is at the heart of the NCA, providing the single authoritative picture of the threat from SOC, delivering intelligence products and identifying opportunities which drive NCA and partner activity in response to the highest harm threats.
Working in the National Intelligence Hub (NIH) involves close collaboration with other UK and International Intelligence, Law Enforcement and policy partners charged with tackling SOC and its impact on the UK.
NIH products drive operational activity and reach senior stakeholders in both operational and policy environments, ultimately informing law enforcement up to chief constable level and the work of Whitehall and the prime minister chaired National Security Council.

Responsibilities

What will I be doing?
You will conduct cross-source analysis and exploitation and make recommendations to support the development of intelligence, gain new insights into criminal activity and behaviour, informing NCA understanding of the impact that targeted activity has on the threat presented by serious and organised crime. You will access a range of covert and overt capabilities to inform this work, working with government, Law Enforcement, UK Intelligence Community, private and third sector, in support of both tactical and strategic objectives.

NDEC is at the centre of the Agency’s plans to exploit all-source intelligence and bulk data to identify those individuals posing the highest threat, risk and harm to the UK and its partners. Working closely alongside data science specialists you will be in a unique position to identify new datasets and apply innovative analytical techniques to inform the decision making of the Agency and wider government. You will be responsible for identifying and developing the highest harm networks and working closely with other teams to develop them into operational packages for investigating officers.

In NIH:
NIH includes the National Assessment Centre and National Targeting Centre.
  • The National Assessments Centre is responsible for producing the authoritative picture of the UK’s understanding of the threat from SOC, a key factor in driving the NCA’s activity and protecting the public. NAC roles are diverse. Intelligence Analysts will manage the production of, and produce, intelligence briefings and assessments, drawing on a wide and ever-growing intelligence base and range of sources to inform their analysis and assessments, including intelligence from secret and sensitive sources.
  • The National Targeting Centre undertakes intelligence development, analysis, prioritisation and exploitation of intelligence from multiple sources, including intelligence from secret and sensitive sources, to provide better targeting of those involved in SOC impacting the UK. Intelligence Analysts will manage the production of analysis products, and conduct analysis to support cases and build understanding of SOC activity, contributing to operations and projects while drawing on a wide and ever-growing intelligence base and range of sources to inform their work.

To be considered you will need to successfully complete an SC enhanced clearance before commencing the role and you may need to obtain DV and STRAP clearance at a later date.

***All NCA officers must hold SC Enhanced upon entry as a minimum. To meet the National Security Vetting requirements for this role you will need to have resided in the UK for a minimum of 3 out of the past 5 years. For more information please see the Candidate information Pack***
