Inspector Maritime Services Nayr recruitment are currently looking for an Inspector Maritime services based in Portsmouth for Role: Inspector Maritime services for a 7 months contract (22 hours per week) within the Defence Sector. 1 Vacancy Digital/Non Digital: non Contract Length: 01/05/2023 (Contract for 22 hours a week) Location: Portsmouth 3 days a week Hybrid in office only for meetings when needed IR35: inside Pay Rate: Negotiable Minimum Requirement:
  • Ideally the successful candidate will have one of the following qualifications (or higher) although lessor qualifications and experience may be acceptable:
  • MCA Recognised STCW II/1 Certificate of Competency; or
  • MCA Recognised STCW III/1 Certificate of Competency; or
  • RN Ship Command Qualifications or Engineering equivalent; or
  • Foundation degree/HND or higher in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Technology or Port Operations.
  • The successful candidate will be able to work independently as well as part of a team and will be highly organised with good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in maritime operations is essential at supervisor and/or management level. You’ll have relevant essential experience in the following: (Please note, this must be demonstrated on your CV to be considered)
  • Operating boats.
  • Safety management.
  • Effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Maritime work background (preferably in the Military area, commercial shipping/boats). You’ll also have the following: (Please note, this must be demonstrated on your CV to be considered)
  • Security Clearance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Report writing skills.
  • A natural problem solver with a proactive approach. Your main responsibilities as role of Inspector Maritime Services would be to:
  • Deliver against the DMR Audit programme; Support Inspectorate audits as requested by Senior Inspectors.
  • Gather regulatory intelligence within the maritime domain to assist in the development of the audit programme.
  • Support the Principal Maritime Services and Principal Inspector in assuring the Defence Maritime Regulator that Duty Holders have in place safety systems as part of a safety and environmental management system that delivers the desired Regulatory outcome DSA002 - Defence Maritime Regulations for: MOD Ports, Harbours, Operating Bases, including associated marine services, watermanship and water sports activities involving the use of MOD Boats in the UK and overseas.
  • Make recommendations to DMR senior management team on subsequent courses of action.
  • Identify potential improvements in maritime safety and environmental protection, drawing on evidence from assurance of stakeholders, accident and incident investigations, trend analysis, benchmarking against other organisations and stakeholder feedback.
  • Support the development of DMR processes.
  • Promote the spread of good safety and environmental practices from other domains and organisations.
  • Provide advice and guidance on the interpretation of policy and general safety and environmental protection and provide advice to Accountable Persons and their departments (where this does not compromise the independence of the team).
  • Answer Parliamentary or Freedom of Information Act questions.
  • Investigate serious events as directed by the Maritime Regulator.
  • Support other areas of the team where necessary.
  • Provide assurance of maritime domain compliance for the area of responsibility to DMR through the Principal Maritime Services.
  • Undertake Inspectorate activities in line with DMR processes as described in DMR SEMS, manuals and work instructions.
  • Maintain relationships and engage with stakeholders in order to develop and sustain a full understanding of the maritime domain. If you have the skills and experience for the role please apply with your CV
