Job Title: Infrastructure Technician

Location: Gloucester (Flexible working offered)

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus a good range of benefits

Duration: Permanent

Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday


About the Team

The Infrastructure Team are responsible for the continued operation of the Ecclesiastical computer systems and converged voice, video and data networks. This role reports to the Infrastructure Manager. A ‘can do’ attitude and willingness to learn, is essential to providing technical resource and knowledge across a wide range of technologies and platforms. Team members are encouraged to generate ideas and embrace change within a rapidly evolving environment whilst exhibiting an optimistic approach to improving the way the organisation operates its technology.

Job purpose

  • To ensure the smooth operation of the Ecclesiastical Infrastructure, supporting colleagues across multiple locations within the UK and Ireland.
  • To design, implement, document and maintain computer systems, aggregated voice, video and data networks and associated services across the Ecclesiastical group.
  • To document, plan and execute small projects actively participating in all phases. Identify, assess and manage risks to the success of the project.
  • To respond promptly to Service Desk incidents and requests providing excellent Customer Service as part of the Business Solutions team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for Ecclesiastical colleagues.
  • Proactively monitor the performance and security of the systems, databases and networks to eradicate unplanned downtime.
  • Ensure that all computer systems and networks are designed, developed, implemented and maintained on the correct technical platform (hardware and/or software), according to system requirements, adhering to change-control procedures.
  • Working individually or as part of larger project teams implement improvements and solutions that provide enhanced value to the business.

Essential Skills

  • Proven track record in specification, design, implementation and maintenance of computer systems or networks and associated services
  • Customer Service
  • Self-management of workload planning and prioritisation
  • Experience of technical project implementations
  • Experience of Microsoft Technologies and VMware administration would be an advantage

Desirable Qualifications

  • Microsoft Technical Specialist or equivalent
  • VmWare VCP
