Infrastructure Automation Lead - London/Hybrid

£85k + Bonus

Our company is currently undergoing an IT transformation, transitioning towards a Product-centric operating model, while advancing the maturity of IT Service Management capabilities. Job Purpose:

As the Infrastructure Automation Lead, you will be responsible for designing, managing, and operating infrastructure automation, including Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) for asset provisioning within our hosting and cloud environment. Reporting to the Head of Hosting and Cloud, you will work alongside a team, supporting our user base and business operations. Your expertise will be pivotal in driving the adoption of automation workflows, simplifying and streamlining infrastructure provisioning and configuration. This role demands strong technical skills, a passion for developing solutions, and proficiency in scripting and code writing within a cloud and virtualization environment. Additionally, experience in global infrastructure and a team-oriented mindset are essential, along with the ability to handle business-critical issues.

Responsibilities & Key Tasks:

  • Collaborate with the Head of Hosting & Cloud and technical lead to implement and automate internal processes.
  • Improve availability, performance, and capacity of servers, storage, and backup solutions using automation in Data Centres or Cloud solutions.
  • Advocate automation and process re-engineering to enhance existing processes and adopt an IaC-based environment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in automation using scripting languages like PowerShell, Python, bash, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, or similar.
  • Familiarity with VMware, virtualization, and experience with vRealize Automation product suite and Orchestrator for creating blueprints and workflows.
  • Work effectively in an Agile / DevOps environment.
  • Take ownership of the Infrastructure automation toolset, developing automation tools and programs as needed.
  • Collaborate with the team to create and support IAAS services in AWS and Azure Cloud.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, gained from a professional service environment.
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards.
  • Work collaboratively to build, manage, and automate a disaster recovery plan as part of an overall business continuity program.

Technical Skills and Knowledge:

  • AWS/Azure
  • Ansible for Automation
  • Powershell Scripting
  • Azure Site Recovery, Cloud Endure or DR Solutions
  • ITIL application processes and implementation, preferably with Service Now.
  • Knowledge of server operating systems, particularly Microsoft Windows, including domain structures, Active Directory, system administration, and Windows Terminal Server.
  • Desirable - Experience with CI/CD systems, Azure or AWS qualifications, industry-leading Monitoring tools such as SCOM, VRops, and VRA, knowledge of Azure Automation and Azure Dev Ops.
