What You Will Contribute to Altos

The In Vivo Research Hub Manager will support the development and implementation of in vivo research at Altos Labs UK Cambridge Institute of Science (CI) and serve as a central resource for all institute scientists. The In Vivo Research Hub Manager will broadly support hub operations, laboratory animal management and hub resources. They will work closely with the CI scientists and Scientific Operations leaders, as well as global colleagues, to support the development and implementation of standardised workflows, tools, and processes to manage the in vivo research programs incorporating the needs of multiple stakeholders. The In Vivo Research Hub Manager will report to Altos Labs UK Cambridge Institute of Science’s Chief of Scientific Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and coordination of all in vivo research at CI
  • Support core hub operations, including purchasing and management of equipment, sourcing of animals, development and implementation of service pipelines, and supervision of hub personnel.
  • Partner with scientists and researchers in the design and implementation of in vivo experiments.
  • Develop and maintain breading colony inventories, research protocols and resource usage records. Develop workflows that aid scientists in recording accurate and detailed experimental and data processes using electronic notebooks and other software systems.
  • Work closely with contractors and CROs to manage animal husbandry and breeding activities.
  • Provide guidance and ensure compliance with all UK laboratory animal and institutional regulations, licences and reporting.
  • Assist with planning future expansions within the In Vivo Research Hub infrastructure, instrumentation, service pipelines, and personnel.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for In Vivo Research hub support functions.
  • Interface with Hub team members, CI researchers, and Scientific Operations team members to identify areas of in vivo research support.
  • Assist with the development, optimization, implementation, and standardization of state-of-the-art in vivo research pipelines.
  • Develop and lead training and orientation programs supported by the In Vivo Research Hub
  • Participate in Institute and ethical review committees as appointed
  • Work collaboratively across teams and operational levels.
  • Prepare operational summaries to include resource management, forecasting, and capital equipment needs and present to multiple stakeholders as required.

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree or PhD in relevant field
  • 3+ years in a in vivo research setting
  • Prior experience with multiple aspects of in vivo research e.g. colony management, surgical procedures, post op care, longitudinal monitoring, post-mortem procedures, in-vivo imaging technologies and behavioural assays.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A strong track record of supporting centralized in vivo research services
  • Extensive knowledge of and significant experience with UK in vivo research regulations and compliance
  • Demonstratable skills in operational management, scientific integrity, data management, and animal welfare.
  • Excellent communication skills including both the ability to write reports and give oral presentations to broad and diverse audiences.
  • Experience in line management

The salary range for this position is £59,840 to £76,160
