We are seeking an ambitious Hydrodynamic Analyst Engineer to build and eventually lead a team of analysts to provide support across the wider team. This evolving role will play a central part in the growth of Balmorals product portfolios across several sectors. The individual will be required to work closely with the product R&D and core engineering teams to deliver cost effective solutions and support for our customers in tendering, research & development and live project work.

The successful candidate will be an integral member of a thriving ambitious design engineering team sharing the same drive and enthusiasm as their peers. The jobholder will be producing innovative engineering solutions and take cost out through automation, standardising processes from concept through to production where cost, time and quality are imperative. They will be required to show initiative in all aspects of the role and have the ability to work with minimal supervision but at the same time possess all the attributes of a great team player.


Main Duties:

  • Perform Hydrodynamic Analysis on Balmorals Cable Protections Systems and renewables product range using Orcaflex for Ultimate Limit State and Fatigue Limit State conditions.
  • Conduct and report on cable fatigue life assessments and the effect Balmoral’s product range has on the life of the cable system.
  • Perform On Bottom Stability calculations and VIV assessments on Balmoral’s product range and the effect on the client’s umbilicals or cables.
  • Conduct Design of Experiments and sensitivity studies to demonstrate the capabilities of Balmoral’s CPS product range with varying environmental parameters.
  • Produce technical reports detailing work completed and the products produced. Including but not limited to, Global Analysis reports, engineering calculations, Finite element analysis and CFD.
  • Improving computational modelling methods through automation and standardisation.
  • To assist in the development of company design systems, standards and procedures
  • To contribute development ideas for new and existing products
  • Support work for proposals and projects working to tight deadlines

Qualifications & Experience:

Qualifications

Required:

  • Engineering degree – Mechanical Engineering/Structural Engineering/Subsea Engineering or Renewables.

Desirable:

  • Working towards, a desire to obtain or near achieving Chartered Status

Experience

Required:

  • 3 years or more experience performing Hydrodynamic Analysis on subsea structures, preferably on installation and in place analysis on Subsea cables or flexibles
  • Experienced user of Numerical Analysis methods such as FEA or CFD to perform structural assessments and responses in Fluid Dynamics.
  • Customer facing with an ability to present in and conduct Technical discussions related to customer needs and solutions provided.

Desirable:

  • 5 years plus Hydrodynamic Analysis experience using Orcaflex analysing cable lay and installations and the interaction with Cable protection system in the offshore wind environment.
  • Competent script writer using Python or equivalent programming language

  • Knowledge of the Offshore Renewables industry
  • A track record of developing lesser experienced engineers in analytical methods and aspects of hydrodynamic analysis.

Skills

Required:

  • In depth knowledge of Hydrodynamic Analysis software preferably Orcaflex.
  • Ability to produce technical calculations quickly and accurately.
  • Knowledge of CFD and/or FEA software, preferably Ansys.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Lateral thinker
  • Strong technical report writing skills
  • Competent MS Office Software experience.
  • Appreciation of company and Industry Standards

Desirable:

  • CFD experience using Ansys CFX
  • Thermal and Mechanical FEA experience in Ansys
  • Knowledge of integrating different software packages to develop automated processes.
  • Fluent in script writing to aide with automation and semi-automated processes.
  • Competent ability in Mathcad
