Our background

With our headquarters in Gloucester, Direct Online Services is a dynamic and progressive eCommerce-led omnichannel retailer of kitchen products. Founded in 2009, we have enjoyed consistent levels of profitable growth since inception, primarily through our flagship brand Worktop Express, the UK’s #1 online worktop retailer selling over 220,000 worktops per year to our B2C consumer base.

The business recently joined the €1bn+ global materials division of Broadview Holding (alongside Formica, Westag, Trespa, Arpa and Homapal), and are now looking to invest towards the future. We have significant plans to accelerate our growth over the coming years domestically and internationally, in existing and new product categories, both within Direct Online Services and also in collaboration with our Group colleagues.

Our people are a key area of investment for the business, and we are now looking for a proactive, strategic and commercially minded HR Business Partner to join our team and support these exciting growth ambitions, and the challenges that come with a rapidly expanding multifaceted business.

In HR we are going through an exciting time with ambitious plans to change the way we do things. With a new HR Director in role, we are looking to create a team with business partnering at the heart of what we do. Working alongside the business, the HR team will be part of building a culture where talent, employee development and engagement are at the forefront of our discussions, enabling an environment where our employees are encouraged to be the best versions of themselves.

Job purpose

Reporting to the HR Director, you will take the lead and advise on people and business issues within a number of teams across the business. You will partner with the relevant Director/Senior Management Team member on key HR initiatives including talent and succession planning, engagement, organisational design and pay/reward. This is a new role to enable progress towards an exciting business strategy with the ultimate goal of enhancing effectiveness through improved managerial competence and employee engagement.

Key responsibilities

  • Partner with your business leaders to develop, implement and evaluate people strategies that support business objectives and improve employee and operational performance
  • Be a champion for talent, identifying critical roles and talent, putting succession and retention strategies in place
  • Ensuring appropriate structures, resource and skills are in place, cultivating a positive working environment
  • Create a focus on the engagement of our people through proactive and visible HR leadership
  • Develop internal skill sets and capabilities, strengthening the team to deliver the business strategy
  • Identify training needs and build suitable L&D programs
  • Own and drive HR projects that will support our goal to be an employer of choice – these may be in the key areas of engagement, D&I, wellbeing, candidate experience etc
  • Prepare and analyse HR data and provide credible solutions
  • Be an ambassador for HR within the business
