HR Officer

Salary: £25,000 - £28,000 pa (dependent upon experience)

Contract Type:Permanent

Hours:Full-time position of 37.5hrs a week, Monday to Friday (office-based)

Location:Verdant Leisure Head Office, Lancaster

About the Role:Our HR Officer is responsible for activities relating to onboarding, change management, employee relations (disciplinaries, grievances etc), absence management and offboarding. They provide advice and responses to queries regarding HR policy and procedure within the organisation and supports initiatives to enhance employee engagement and performance levels. The HR Officer proactively manages the HRIS and works with our payroll function to ensure organisational and legislative requirements are met. The HR Officer contributes to the continuous improvement in the business performance of Human Resources and achievement of the organisation’s vision and purpose.

Typical duties and responsibilities include:

  • Be the first point of contact for all HR queries from both internal and external sources.
  • Undertake all administration relating to the employee onboarding process, including (but not limited to): preparation of contracts and offer letters, new starter packs, creation of personnel files, pre-employment checks.
  • Provide guidance to managers on HR matters including sickness/absence management, disciplinaries, grievances, performance management and probation periods ensuring that company policy and current legislation is followed. Escalate any complex matters to the HR Manager.
  • Produce and submit reports on general HR activities i.e. leave reports, training reports etc
  • Coordinate staff surveys and assist the HRM to report on findings

About the Person:You will need to be confident, self-motivated and well organised. Previous experience of managing your own workload within a HR environment, ensuring strict deadlines are met, is essential. Experience with supporting/advising line managers in a multi-site business would be an advantage as our parks are located across the country. You will need to have experience of managing and driving HR activities such as disciplinaries, performance management and absence management. Experience coaching line managers to confidently deal with HR issues would be an advantage. Ideally you will love a challenge, be able to think outside the HR box, and bring fresh ideas and inspiration to the role.

Skills and experience required:

  • Previous experience in a busy HR office, with a range of HR activities
  • Experience with HRIS including managing data and reports
  • CIPD level 5 (or equivalent)
  • Ability to establish good working relationships both internally and externally
  • Ability to work independently and on own initiative to meet deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
  • A friendly and professional approach
