Go Local Food has champions locally-grown vegetables. We are a member-owned cooperative located in the beautiful Tyne Valley, and on the border of the Northumberland National Park. We’re active members of the UK CSA Network. We’re committed to agroecology, resilient agriculture, social justice and co-operative working.

Job description

Go Local Food is offering a contract for 16 hours per week during the growing season, down to 8 hours per week during the winter months to a self-employed horticulturalist with experience of managing people. The contractor will work with our existing grower to meet our business plan objectives, working across 2 sites at Ovington and Matfen and scaling up our production with help from our dedicated community of workshares, volunteers and supporters.

Requirements:

  • Experience of vegetable growing (all aspects of production and harvesting) all year round on a commercial scale
  • Good level of horticultural knowledge to be able to answer questions from workshares, volunteers and members
  • Experience of crop planning and record keeping
  • Experience of managing people
  • Reasonably fit and able to carry out physically demanding tasks
  • Hard working and reliable
  • Able to work well independently and as part of team
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, plan and organise
  • Able to share information, give guidance and enthuse others
  • Full UK driving licence and experience of tractor/trailer driving
  • Basic mechanical repair/ DIY skills

Contract length: 12 months

Part-time hours: 16 per week
